The Enterprise Management Forum of The Open Group, within their Application Quality and Resource Management (AQRM) initiative embarked on a project to develop an AQRM Industry Standard. Brief versions of the AQRM Vision Statement and the ‘Call to Action’ are presented below. For the full text of the call to action, please see [References, 1]. There is no formal, comprehensive AQRM structure in existence today that can be used as a starting point for the proposed standard. Therefore, it was decided to develop a standard set of requirements and an architecture that can be used as a basis for further work and whenever possible share this approach with other standards bodies and consortia . This paper represents a Functional Description of a generic Application Quality of Service (AQoS) system. Specifically, it contains: · Customer requirements that drive this need · Basic definitions relevant to AQRM · General principles and considerations involved in AQoS Management · Process description of AQoS
