There are two problems facing the IT industry:

First- we can’t manage what we have today – complex client/ server/ network environments with web and other applications competing for common resources.

Second - new web services models with promise all focus on increasing levels of distribution and disaggregations to allow web services and other applications to share increasingly virtualized resources.  How can the industry ensure rapid uptake? – By taking time to make sure that the new environment is instrumented and manageable though shared standards.

... Ensuring Certainty in Service Delivery….

On May 1st, we started an initiative for developing the necessary standards. This effort is addressing the management of applications across infrastructure components including the network, servers, storage and the datacenter.  Please see the recorded webcast, and the meeting notes to review the proceedings and the next actions.

This is a working group, not a discussion group so rapid progress is critical.

Once the project is established, participation will require membership in The Open Group.

A mailing list has been set up to support the project. To join the list, or for any other information on the project, or membership in The Open Group, please contact Martin Kirk.

For more information on membership, please contact the Program Director, Martin Kirk at m.kirk@opengroup.org, or any of The Open Group's offices.
