Boston 24th - 26th July 2002

Agenda


The Architecture Forum at Boston will host a full-day public Architecture Briefing on Wednesday 24th July. In addition, there will be an Architecture Workshop, from Thursday 25th July through the morning of Friday 26th July, in which the members of the Forum will progress their 2002 work program. As part of this workshop, there will be joint working sessions with the Mobile Management Forum and the Quality of Service Task Force.

Boundaryless Information Flow: The Role of Architecture
Wednesday 24th July 2002


This practical full-day Symposium will update you on the important role of IT architecture for implementing enterprise infrastructures to support boundaryless information flow, in a way that reduces risk and increases the securability, reliability, and adaptability of the implemented infrastructure.

The Briefing also addresses the important issues in getting started with IT Architecture - how to introduce IT Architecture into the enterprise; how to evaluate architectural frameworks; and how to tailor a framework for use within a particular corporate environment.

Architecture Workshop (members only)
Thursday 25th July and Friday 26th July 2002


The main area of focus for the Architecture Workshop at Boston will be to review in detail the latest draft deliverables from projects in the Architecture Forum's 2002 work program. The 2002 work program is one of the most extensive yet, with a proposal to transition TOGAF from a framework and method for IT Architecture to one for overall enterprise architecture.

In addition there will be joint working sessions with two other forums: The Mobile Management Forum and the Quality of Service Task Force.

14:00 Mobile Architecture: Joint session with the Mobile Management Forum.

The MMF's Mobile Architecture Working Group will propose changes and extensions to the TOGAF Technical Reference Model for inclusion in TOGAF Version 8. Proposed additions to the Standards Information Base in the Mobile area will also be discussed. The session will also discuss possible work in 2003 aimed at including in TOGAF Version 9 a significant enhancement describing all aspects of Mobility.

16:00 QoS and Architecture: Using Architecture to Map Quality of Service Through Multiple Domains: Joint session with the Quality of Service Task Force.

The Quality of Service Task Force is looking to the Architecture Forum for expertise in representing and evolving the Task Force's concept of end-to-end QoS, described in the Task Force's "Component Model". The Task Force is considering using TOGAF, as an open architectural framework, to refine and represent the end-to-end concept in a way that allows more depth and flexibility in the model. Proposed additions to the Standards Information Base in the QoS area will also be discussed.
