Stephen Swenson Mr. Swenson is a senior engineer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. He began his career with the Navy in 1987 after graduation from the University of Rhode Island. He was a principle software engineer for the Weapons Analysis Facility (WAF) - the Navy's premier hardware-in-the-loop torpedo simulator - where he developed real-time models and algorithms, graphical displays, and facility control software.

In 1995, Mr. Swenson took a one-year assignment with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations; Director, Test and Evaluation and Technology Requirements (OPNAV N091) as their modeling and simulation action officer. During his tenure at OPNAV, Mr. Swenson worked very closely with Navy personnel to formulate the Navy's Test and Evaluation community's contribution to the Navy's Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Master Plan. He also played a key role in the reshaping of the Joint Modeling and Simulation System into a truly joint endeavor. Mr. Swenson earned the Meritorious Civilian Service award for his contributions at OPNAV N091.

Upon returning to NUWC in 1996, Mr. Swenson assumed the role of Chief Engineer for the Undersea Warfare Engineering Project Office where he worked closely with the submarine shipyards to ensure proper injection of NUWC technologies into the Virginia Class submarine. Mr. Swenson helped stand-up the congressionally-mandated Design Improvement Proposal process for submarine technology insertion. At the same time, Mr. Swenson represented Navy to the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) and the other Services in the transition of Navy simulations to the High Level Architecture (HLA).

In 1999, Mr. Swenson was appointed as Head, Weapons Analysis Facility and Torpedo Lifecycle Support Facility Branch. In this role, he led nearly 40 government scientists and engineers in the development and advancement of critical undersea weapons support facilities. Mr. Swenson worked closely with the Office of Naval Research and university labs to develop the Torpedo Enterprise Advanced Modeling and Simulation (TEAMS) initiative. TEAMS is the undersea community's foray into M&S composability. Most recently, the Office of Naval Intelligence has adopted the TEAMS' precepts in developing their threat undersea weapons models under the intelligence community's Threat Modeling and Assessment Program (TMAP). Also in 1999, Mr. Swenson stood up the Navy's M&S standardization program under the Navy Modeling and Simulation Management Office (NAVMSMO). He currently chairs Navy's Modeling and Simulation Standards Steering Group (MS3G).

In 2001, Mr. Swenson established a Systems Analysis group inside the Weapons Directorate at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. In this capacity, he oversees a senior analysis staff as they look at the future capabilities of undersea weapons, unmanned undersea vehicles, and submarine defensive systems.
