Synopsis

Enterprise Architecture Planning Process

Enterprise Architecture projects vary a lot in scope, size and complexity and there are a lot of uncertainties-however, one thing is certain: there is always a time pressure to deliver 'quick wins' from day one. The primary casualty in this phenomenon is the time and effort allocated to the P (Preliminary) phase of TOGAF. Wisdom gained through hindsight, shows that the P phase could, in fact, be the most significant contributor to the success of the entire Enterprise Architecture project. It pays to allocate significantly more time and effort to the P phase and perform a 'dummy' ADM run to iron out potential problems and 'show-stoppers'. The Enterprise Architect , in fact, has to turn the Preliminary Phase) into a Premier Planning Phase.
