The Austin Group has an internet relay chat (IRC) server provided by the Linux Foundation that can be used: irc://irc.freestandards.org/austin/ Also the Editors work on The Open Group IRC server when developing the drafts: irc://irc.opengroup.org/austin/ (this is password protected) What is IRC? IRC is a form of real-time Internet chat or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group (many-to-many) communication in discussion forums called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication and data transfers via private message. You can establish a new channel on the server by typing in /join #channel-name How do I access the forum IRC server? If you already have an IRC client, you should access the server irc.freestandards.org and join the "#austin" channel If you do not have a client then we recommend that you use the Chatzilla client that installs into the Firefox browser as an addon. To do that visit : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/16/ and installing chatzilla. After exiting and restarting Firefox, you can then type irc://irc.freestandards.org/austin or irc://irc.opengroup.org/austin,needpass in the firefox url section to fire up the IRC client. What is the IRC server password for irc.opengroup.org? Contact Andrew Josey for the IRC server password. Note you do not need the password for the main #austin channel at irc.freestandards.org When should I access the IRC server? The IRC server tends to be most useful during teleconferences when you might want to propose some specific words for feedback. Its also useful as a way of reaching people more immediately than email.
