Austin Group Status Update Austin-22 Page 1 of 1 Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. March 5th, 1999 This is a brief status update after this weeks Austin Group meeting. The second meeting of the joint technical working group informally known as the Austin Group was held at the Sun facility in Menlo Park on March 2/3/4 1999. The meeting had 11 attendees (some part-time) and one attendee via teleconference. The objective of this meeting was to decide the contents and produce editing instructions to enable production of draft one of the common specifications. A summary of the changes to be included in draft one follows: -From existing .1 and .2 : Portability considerations Any normative parts of POSIX not covered in the Base specs. Rationale Section 1 front matter for .1 and .2 -Terminology changes to match the IEEE style (shall instead of will) -Approved TOG corrigenda -Removal of obsolescent / legacy features -Integration of .13 slice and dice units of functionality -Integration of a set of options for XSH/XCU extensions over POSIX -Introduction of options margin markers for POSIX options Draft one will not include merger of any standards or drafts beyond the existing approved POSIX.1-1996 and POSIX.2-1992. The minutes and documents Austin/16,17,18 should be read for further details. The group is anticipating production of two drafts of the documents this year, and thus two additional meetings. Draft one will be available June 1st 1999. This will be available for a six week review period, commencing June 1st and completing July 14th. A comment resolution meeting will occur in Montreal, Canada at a three day meeting on July 20 - 22 (the meeting will commence at 9am on July 20 and end at 4pm on July 22). It is anticipated that draft two will be available on October 25th 1999 and the next meeting will be in the week commencing December 6th 1999. The meeting location for the December 6th meeting is yet to be decided.
