Austin Group Minutes of the 14 October Teleconference Austin-225 Page 1 of 1 Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. October 15, 2004 Attendees Andrew Josey, The Open Group Nick Stoughton, USENIX, ISO/IEC OR Ulrich Drepper, Red Hat Jay Ashford, IBM Apologies Don Cragun , Sun, PASC OR Mark Brown, IBM, TOG OR Status of next plenary meeting ---------------- The next plenary has been announced as Jan 11-13, with the ISO POSIX Advisory Group meeting the day before. Meeting registration is now open, folks are requested to register by December 1st. http://www.opengroup.org/austin/agenda.html Andrew noted that he is looking for specific agenda items, and noted that Utility Syntax Guidelines and LSB differences ought to be on the agenda. Defect Report Processing ------------------------- The group picked up on the latest batch of defect reports, which are available at the following URL: http://www.opengroup.org/austin/aardvark/latest/ XSH ERN 61 editorial error in atol Accept XCU ERN 42 cp -R when target is a symlink naming a directory Accept (it was noted that if the proposed wording is not acceptable then ln should be changed also) XCU ERN 43 pathchk and empty pathnames Accept as marked below This is being handled as an interpretation request. The standard does not speak to the issue of handling empty pathnames, and as such no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Rationale: The usage pathchk -p -- -x is not required to fail since the "-p" has specific defined tests that shall be followed , the characters -x are valid in a component of pathname. The standard does not address the null pathname. It was felt that for the same reasons as expressed in XCU ERN 39 that this be added to -P rather than -p. Supplement XCU ERN 39 with the following revisions In XCU pathchk (2004 ed , p696) Insert at the end of the OPTIONS section in the pathck utility "-P Write a diagnostic for each pathname operand that: - contains a component whose first character is the hyphen character - is empty " Add to the pathckh RATIONALE "For historical purposes -p does not check for the use of the hyphen character as the first character in a component of the pathname, or for an empty pathname operand." XCU ERN 44 pr utility PASC Interpretation 1003.2-92 #151 not applied. Accept. XCU ERN 45 touch with first operand an 8 or 10 digit decimal integer Accept as marked below Add RATIONALE In previous editions of the standard, if at least two operands are specified, and the first operand is an eight- or ten-digit decimal integer, the first operand was assumed to be a date_time operand. This usage was removed in this edition of the standard since it had been marked obsolescent previously. Next Steps ----------- Andrew will update the aardvark reports with the latest inbound defect reports. There are a number of open action items outstanding: 1. Don Cragun Pathname Resolution proposal 2. Larry Dwyer system() and threads 3. Joerg Schilling wording for XCU ERN 1 pax The next teleconference call is scheduled for Nov 4 2004
