Austin Group Minutes of the 18 November Teleconference Austin-229 Page 1 of 1 Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. November 19, 2004 Attendees Andrew Josey, The Open Group Nick Stoughton, USENIX, ISO/IEC OR Don Cragun , Sun, PASC OR Loic Domaigne Mark Brown, IBM, TOG OR Apologies Ulrich Drepper, Red Hat Status of next plenary meeting ---------------- The agenda has been updated. Andrew reported that he had no confirmation yet on whether the PASC SEC will also meet during the same week. He spoke with Lowell and a general announcement on a PASC election of officers had been posted to pasc-gen-l. Andrew confirmed that irrespective of whether the PASC SEC meeting goes ahead the meeting will last four complete days (Monday through Thursday inclusive) with the ISO meeting on the Monday. Registration for the meeting is required by December 1st https://www.opengroup.org/austin/register.html Defect Report Processing ------------------------- The group picked up on the latest batch of defect reports, which are available at the following URL: http://www.opengroup.org/austin/aardvark/latest/ XBD ERN 19 All-caps Environment variables used for configuration OPEN This is being left open for the next meeting. Mark is still working on a revised proposal. XBD ERN 32 connected socket definition Accept as marked below The group accepted the problem report and will progress this as an interpretation. This is an interpretation. The standard is unclear on this issue, and no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Notes to the editor for a future revision (not part of this interpretation) Insert a new definition before "3.108 Connection": Connected Socket A connection-mode socket for which a connection has been established, or a connectionless-mode socket for which a peer address has been set. See also Sections 3.108, 3.109, 3.110 and 3.348 (on page 83). Note Cross volume changes to XSH: page 223 line 7458 section connect Change: "The connect() function shall attempt to make a connection on a socket." to: "The connect() function shall attempt to make a connection on a connection-mode socket or to set or reset the peer address of a connectionless-mode socket." page 223 line 7471 section connect Append: "Note that despite no connection being made, the term `connected' is used to describe a connectionless-mode socket for which a peer address has been set." page 1295 line 40598 section send Change: "(including when the peer of a connectionless socket has been set via connect())." to: "If the socket is connectionless-mode, the message shall be sent to the pre-specified peer address." page 1296 line 40635 section send Change: "The socket is not connected or otherwise has not had the peer pre-specified." to: "The socket is not connected." page 1302 line 40853 section sendto Delete "This error may or may not be returned for connection mode sockets." XSH ERN 52 BUG in sched_setscheduler OPEN This item has been open for a while, and it has been agreed that there is a problem, but no proposal with agreement yet on how to fix the issue. See https://www.opengroup.org/sophocles/protected/sopuser/show_mail.tpl?source=L&listname=austin-group-l&id=7084 The group agreed that we should ask for proposed wording to progress this (Dave, Michael?) XSH ERN 63 Defect in XSH pthread_attr_getschedparam OPEN This relates to option shading for the pthread_attr_getschedparam and pthread_attr_setschedparam functions. There was a agreement that there appears to be a defect but not resolution on a future change. It looks as if the presence of sched.h is required when _POSIX_THREADS is supported-- although its unclear what the contents of it should be in that case. It was agreed to raise the issue with the SSWG-RT. (Andrew has the action) XSH ERN 64 freopen() allocates a file description Accept as marked below This is an interpretation The standard does not speak to this issue, and as such no conformance distinction can be made between alternative implementations based on this. This is being referred to the sponsor. Rationale: This is an alignment issue that was missed during the revision. Notes to the editor for a future revision (not part of this interpretation): Append to the end of the third paragraph in the DESCRIPTION (line 14439 2004 edition), "The freopen() function shall allocate a file descriptor as open() does." XSH ERN 65 BUG in XSH-waitid Accept as marked below The group felt this was an editorial matter. After the 2nd sentence in the first paragraph which states "It records the current state of a child in the structure pointed to by infop." Append the following text: "The fields of the structure pointed to by infop are filled in as described for the SIGCHLD signal in the XBD signal.h page." Add signal.h to the SEE ALSO line XSH ERN 66 pthread_attr_getstack editorial error in ERRORS Accept XCU ERN 30 Defect in XCU tr RATIONALE example Accept Next Steps ----------- Andrew will update the aardvark reports with the latest inbound defect reports. There are a number of open action items outstanding: 1. Don Cragun Pathname Resolution proposal 2. Larry Dwyer system() and threads 3. Joerg Schilling wording for XCU ERN 1 pax The next teleconference call is scheduled for Dec 2 2004
