Caution is fine, especially on the fuyure directions stuff... but I do think
this is a legitimate Ooops, and if someone wants to clean up my phrasing
a bit, that's fine too. :-) I realize what I proposed may break some existing
chardef files, but right now all disambiguation schemes that have been
implemented are unspecified as to method, and thus unlikely to be portable.
I'd finf it hard to believe that this change would cause too many regressions.
