TC1 Draft 1 Reviewers Notes = Please Read

These reviewers notes accompany TC1 Draft 1 dated May 28 2002.

TC1 Draft 1 is the first committee draft of Technical Corrigendum number
1 for the Austin Group Specification (aka IEEE Std 1003.1-2001, The Open
Group Base Specifications, Issue 6). These notes should be read prior
to reviewing the documents.

The review period for TC1 Draft 1 commences May 28th 2002 and completes
on June 25 2002. This is shorter than usual review periods since the
technical corrigendum review documents are smaller in size than the
texts previously circulated for review during the standard development
process. This is a committee review. No IEEE, The Open Group or ISO
balloting is occurring on this draft. A teleconference meeting will be
held if necessary on June 27th to resolve any comments.

All interested parties are invited to review these comments and submit
comments directly to the Austin Group. Please use the Aardvark bug
format. Further information on bugreporting against these documents can
be found at http://www.opengroup.org/austin/bugreport.html. For aardvark
bug reporting please use the following convention for naming the documents
as follows XBDtc1-d1, XSHtc1-d1, XCUtc1-d1, and XRATtc1-d1. Please note
that since the documents are a single page of html, please give the page
number as one.

TC1 Draft 1 contains all technical corrigenda candidate items arising from
agreed defect reports, interpretations and resolutions up to May 24 2002.

These documents are circulated as a set of changes against the final
approved standard (page and line numbers are against the final standard).

Draft 2 is expected to contain additional technical corrigenda items
from the defect reports, interpretations and resolutions that remain
under discussion from the May 2002 Plenary meeting.

Background information on Technical Corrigenda

A technical corrigenda item can change the meaning of the standard, as
such all technical corrigenda require formal approval by the sponsoring
organizations (usually through a formal ballot process).

The following are the criteria for a Technical Corrigenda (TC) item:

a.It has to be in the scope of the original Austin Group project. (see
http://www.opengroup.org/austin/docs/austin_9r6.txt)

b.It should be non-controversial ( a TC is intended to pass ballot at
the first attempt)

c.It contains no new APIs (functions/utilities), however it may add
enumeration symbol and non-function #defines and reserve additional
namespaces.

d.Typically a TC is used to fix contradictions between different parts
of the standard, add consistency between the standard and overriding
standards, and to fix security-related problems.
