Well, I can't really say it's bad infrastructure here in Germany, but my
ISP still offers uucp (over TCP, not dial-in in my case), and I use it
to transfer mail and news batches to and from my local MTA and news
server without the need for being continuously on-line. So, rmail and
rnews make me independent of all the post office protocols. It allows me
to expire news when *I* think it's time. I like that. So, uucp is handy
when you

- want to run your own servers (sendmail, innd)
- but a 24/7 connection is not an option (due to pay-per-minute,
  or outrageous electricity bills)
