Business ScenariosBusiness scenarios provide a structured way to describe a business process in both a business and a technology context. A business scenarios presentation and a Business Scenarios Tutorial were given at the Berlin Conference. |
You are here: Interoperability > Role of The Open Group > RequirementsAnalysis of the RequirementsOne example of work on requirements can be found in the Quality of Service (QoS) Program The object of the first day's meeting at the Berlin Conference was to look at a number of relevant standards activities, initiatives, and technologies for QoS to learn what is going on and to avoid duplication of effort. participants talked about 3 phases of development of the Group's work: the Definition Phase to be completed end Q2 2001, the evaluation and decision phase to be completed Q3 2001, and the implementation phase to start in Q4 2001. The Definition Phase takes account of what already exists and the work of many consortia including IETF, DMTF, CADENUS, OMG, MPLS, and others. The work includes capturing and prioritizing requirements and evaluating pertinent efforts of other consortia. The Group will populate a component map with existing standards efforts, interfaces, protocols, etc., and will develop a white paper. The Evaluation Phase considers the status, fitness for purpose, and other criteria. It will look at what is the level of applicability of the standard or activity to the customer and vendor requirements. It will also look at the level of support and market adoption for the standard. Questions to ask include who is involved in the standards activity, what is the status of the standard, are there any implementations of the standard, how have they evolved, and if there are multiple implementations are they interoperable. Other Requirements ActivityMost of The Open Group Forums work on analysis of requirements responding to input from the Customer Council and initiating their own analysis. The Security and Architecture Forums are looking at Security Patterns. The Mobile Management Forum
are working on four areas following analysis of market need. |
