The Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA®) certification was
developed to assure compliance with specifications developed by Object Management
Group (OMG) for object technology use, management, interworking (exchange of
data between data models), and interoperability (message exchange between object
request brokers). The Open Group acts as the Certification Authority.
Products which are developed in compliance with this architecture and specification
include an Object Request Broker (ORB) which enables objects to transparently
make and receive requests and responses in a distributed environment. In addition
to the ORB, products may also supply object services that applications may
share. These object services are a collection of services (interfaces and objects)
that support basic functions for using and implementing objects, as well as
common facilities. Products that conform to this Product Standard include an
implementation of the OMG abstract object model. They also supply an implementation
of the ORB interoperability architecture that supplies the framework for ORB
interoperability.
Benefits
The certification program benefits both customers and vendors by:
- Providing assurance of conformance and interoperability
- Reducing the costs and risks of getting certified.
Under the program, vendor guarantee conformance to specification. This guarantee
ensures that products conform to a specification, remain conformant throughout
the life of the product’s registration, and any non-conformance will
be promptly fixed. All current certified products are listed in the Certified
Products Register.
