Message from the President
When you cut away details of EMA's programs and services and focus on our fundamental vision, EMA embodies the opportunities for messaging technologies to challenge and change the future of global electronic commerce.
Today, representatives of over 400 member companies are actively working on dozens of projects aimed at accomplishing these objectives. This effort enables the businesses that are using and exploring messaging technologies for electronic commerce to work together in an unique partnership with the providers of those products and services. By drawing on member resources to both set priorities and do the work, EMA ensures these programs, projects and services will address the needs of the messaging industry.
As we plan for this future, our goals are clear. The evolution of EMA's role in support of our members' application of this critical technology lies in four principle areas: Promotion, Technology, Public Policy, and Education.
- Promotion: EMA will aggressively champion the development and use of messaging technologies for secure global electronic commerce.
- Technology: EMA will work to remove barriers to global interoperability and connectivity by assisting in the definition, endorsement, development, demonstration and implementation of messaging standards and related operating conventions and practices.
- Public Policy: EMA will advocate public policies favorable to the development of electronic commerce with governments, technical standards bodies and consumer groups.
- Education: EMA will expand its efforts to educate, provide training material and promote a greater understanding and appreciation of all electronic messaging and electronic commerce services and technologies.
Today, in a move we hope will further all these but especially the last one, I am proud to introduce you to Messaging Magazine. Replacing our yellow-topped Electronic Messaging Update, Messaging Magazine will continue to report on EMA's activities as well as endeavor to find new ways to bring immediately usable information to you that will help your company realize the maximum potential and opportunity of electronic messaging.
We look forward to your comments and suggestions.
William R. Moroney
