Bruce G. Joseph is Partner at Wiley, Rein & Fielding and specializes in intellectual property and litigation. Mr. Joseph has fifteen years' experience in intellectual property matters and has been an active participant in the ongoing legislative policy debates discussed in this article.

Michele Rubenstein is the Director of Electronic Messaging for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, providing strategic oversight for messaging programs for Treasury's 14 Offices and Bureaus. She is also a member of EMA's Board of Directors as well as several government and industry technology working groups and committees. Before joining Treasury, she worked in the Department of Defense, then the telecommunications and banking fields. She is also a private consultant and a part-time teacher.

Stephen M. Layne is a Vice President and General Manager of Lotus Development Corp. Mr. Layne is responsible for Lotus' Soft-Switch messaging group with emphasis on Internet solutions and enterprise messaging migration and coexistence solutions. Mr. Layne has been actively involved in computer and telecommunications industries for more than 15 years and is a recognized authority on electronic messaging integration and value-added networks. Mr. Layne is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the EMA Board of Directors and has served on the Board for two years.

Nina Burns is the President and CEO of Creative Networks, a research, publishing and consulting firm specializing in intranet and collaborative computing. Ms. Burns works with global leaders and startups including suppliers developing intranet and collaborative computing technology, as well as organizations applying these technologies to their businesses. Ms. Burns currently serves as First Vice Chair of the EMA Board of Directors and has been a member of the Board for 4 years.

Paul Hoffman is one of the directors and founders of the Internet Mail Consortium. Mr. Hoffman has been active in Internet activities for over a decade and has written over a dozen computer-related books. Mr. Hoffman is also Co-Chair of the EMA'98 Internet/Intranet Messaging conference track.

Joanne Gharemani is an Internal Messaging Consultant and Senior Member, Technical Staff of BTNA. At BTNA, Ms. Gharemani supported the launch of EDI/Messaging for CONCERT, the BT/MCI joint venture for global directory services and has also served as WEMA Directory Challenge Coordinator. Previously, Ms. Gharemani worked for the federal government in the telecommunications and electronic commerce/messaging areas for several agencies.

James Rafferty is the President of Human Communications and is Leader of the Internet/Intranets Work Group of the EMA. Mr. Rafferty is also Co-Chair of the Internet Fax Work Group of the Internet Engineering Task Force, technical editor and publisher of Human Communications Digest and Standards Update, and Editor of a variety of fax standards committees and work groups. In 1996, Mr. Rafferty received the prestigious Computer Facsimile Award for contributions to the computer fax industry.
