OMG High Assurance Security Workshop

Featured Workshop of OMG Standards in Government and NGO's Workshop

OMG's High Assurance Security Workshop & MILS Demo will be held on July 14, 2009 in Arlington, VA, USA. This workshop will be co-located with other OMG workshops and special interest sessions including Government DTF; Real-time & Embedded Systems; Green Computing; and Cloud Computing. For more information on the High Assurance Security Workshop, visit http://www.omg.org/has.

The morning session is targeted at business/managers and will feature sessions on common problems and solutions, and the Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) demonstration from top vendors; the afternoon session will be more in-depth and technical.

Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) Demo
Global defense contractors today are challenged with delivering secure communication systems with more functionality, supporting multiple domains, and higher assurance in a platform that is smaller in size, weight, and power (SWaP). This directive cannot be satisfied using traditional federated military platforms.

To create small and lightweight yet powerful components for future systems demanding the support of multilevel secure (MLS) communications, the MILS (multiple independent levels of security) architecture is now being implemented in leading military programs. MILS is an emerging system architecture based on proven real-time operating systems concepts. This technology integrates multiple applications at different security levels on a single microprocessor. To be a suitable base for very high assurance systems, MILS is evaluated at the highest levels of Common Criteria (CC) security certification.

Four of the largest defense contractors in the world, Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, and Rockwell Collins, will demonstrate this solution at the High Assurance Security Workshop. These leading defense suppliers, along with their software partners, will participate in a joint simulated combat search-and-rescue demonstration in which enemy jet fighter aircraft and missiles identified and will be destroyed to enable the successful recovery of a downed pilot. This multi-vendor demonstration will feature the MILS approach to information assurance, which can use Common Criteria-evaluated off-the-shelf products as a base to achieve secure information sharing in the battle space. This demonstration will show a new approach for building MLS systems in a notional integrated battlefield using MILS solutions across companies and systems.
