State of the Standards for SOA
This presentation will build upon presentations that have described the "State of the Standards for SOA" in previousArchitecture Practitioners Conferences. It will review Industry and Standards Organization's work and outlooks directly (or indirectly) related to SOA. It will include:
1. The Open Group: This will provide a status of (and focus on) new work since the last APC in Lisbon. It will update the audience on Open Group work in the four approved work areas: Ontology, Case Studies, Governance and the TOGAF/SOA Practical Guide. It will also give an update on (currently) pending activities, including those in the areas of Reference Architecture, Business-Driven SOA and the Maturity Model.
2. OMG: There have been a number of significant advancements in the OMG in their SOA SIG including the issuance of a RFP for a UML Profile and Metamodel for Services, a RFI for Event Driven Architecture (EDA) And its relationship with SOA & BPM.both of which were issued at the December OMG Technical Conference. In addition, there are numerous other activities to report upon including a "SOA Information Day" held at the December conference.
3. OASIS: Activity here is developing all "around" SOA with numerous Technical Committees (Including the SOA Reference Model TC) developing very focused standards, including Electronic Business SOA (ebSOA), SOA Adoption Blueprints, Web Services Quality and others.
4. W3C: There is recent activity taking place in Activity in WS-Policy and WS-Choreography, for example, that may have significant impact on SOA as well, certainly as activity around the Semantic Web (ontologies, etc.)
5. SOA Alliance: This is expected to be "official" by the time of the conference and its membership and planned activities should be public and reported.
6. And other organizations that may be developing standards or providing significant influence in the market - ZapThink, Gartner, an other analysts as well as international standards efforts in areas such as the IETF, IEEE and ISO.
