Architecting to the Edge™ (Mon)
In today's real-time world, getting accurate information into the hands of the 'edge user'- be they military, first responders, field sales representatives, or stock traders- is increasingly important. Occurrences of threats such as terrorism, natural disaster, and extreme weather represent a major challenge for IT professionals, forcing them to face the convergence of traditional real-time and non-real-time systems.
Systems at the edge - typically based on highly distributed infrastructure and interaction of a large number of services - need to be predictive and dynamic, highly fault-tolerant, and have the capability to operate in real time; from gathering data for analysis, review, and response to disseminating information to end users. This session will address business and technical requirements of 'edge' systems and discuss solutions. The afternoon session will include two presentations on the SAE standard "Architecture Design and Analysis Language" (AADL)
Dependability through Assuredness™: Traceability and Trustworthiness (Tue & Wed)
The Real-time and Embedded Systems Forum will host this 2-day session. The Open Group will facilitate developing an approach to Software Assurance (medium to high robustness) through the use of certified interoperable tools (based on open standards) to support a distributed real-time test bed for testing, certification and accreditation of systems and components. Various instantiations of assurance testing will support a system or system-of-systems for software quality, security (to include high robustness), information assurance, requirements traceability, interoperability, quality of service, aggregated real-time performance, modeling and simulation, formal methods proof, and artifact generation based on current best practices for mission- and safety-critical systems.
Experts invited from the following domains - to delineate their Certification and Accreditation (C&A) requirements - include: Department of Homeland Security, NASA - flight to Mars and beyond, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Future Combat Systems, Medical Devices, and others.
Tuesday - gathering the requirements for Dependability through Assuredness™: Traceability and Trustworthiness
Wednesday morning - approaches to the test environment and identification of the types tools required
Wednesday afternoon - a series of workshops in parallel sessions to flush out a high level architecture
Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS)
An enabling architecture known as Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) is the process of dramatically reducing the size and complexity of security-critical code, thus allowing faster and more cost-effective development and evaluation.
Wednesday pm: MILS Tutorial Open to those holding a paid conference pass only.
Thursday pm: MILS Presentations and Demonstrations Open to those holding a paid conference pass PLUS those who have completed the free half-day registration [register here]. This registration allows you access to this Thursday afternoon event but oes not include lunch.
Adaptive Business Solutions (Tue)
The aims of the meeting are: to increase understanding of the circumstances in which adaptive solutions are required, and of the technology that can provide them; to agree on a charter for the Adaptive Business Solutions Work Group; and to progress the work of the Group.
The morning sessions will feature presentations on adaptive technology and case studies of its application. In the afternoon, the meeting will discuss a charter that will set out the work program for the Group, and will make a start on that work program.
If you want to find out and influence what The Open Group is doing in Adaptive Business Solutions - including Agent Technologies - this is where to come! This meeting of the Adaptive Business Solutions Work Group is open to all conference attendees, but only representatives of Open Group member companies will be able to vote on the Work Group charter.

DirecNet™ Task Force (Thu)
Defense communications industry leaders have joined together to create the DirecNet Task Force. This Task Force will provide a newly created open-standard for a directional, ad hoc, mobile, mesh networking system. This new standard will provide commanders and military forces with up to 1 gigabit per second (1 Gbps) data rate link that will allow secure transmission of mission-critical video, imagery and voice communications. This mission critical capability will enable military forces to operate in a network centric environment and to obtain a common and persistent operational picture in near real time.In this open session, we will describe the need for the DirecNet standard as well as provide an introduction to the consortium, top level driving requirements and usage scenarios.
The Company members of the DirecNet Task Force are BAE Systems, Boeing, Cubic Defense Applications, Harris, ITT Corporation, Innovative Concepts, L-3 Communications, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and Rockwell Collins.
Meeting Agenda:
http://www.opengroup.org/tech/direcnet-task-force/index.htm
* John Boyd - Why DirecNet (Cubic Defence Systems)
* Gary Nault - Introduction to DirecNet (Chairman DirecNet Steering Committee)
* Mike Maurer - Standard Development (Chairman Standards Development Work Group)
* Lewis Lin - DirecNet Scenarios (Northrup Grumman)
SOA Working Group Open Session(Thu)The Open Group's SOA Working Group exists to develop and foster common understanding of Service Oriented Architecture, and to facilitate its adoption, by producing definitions, analyses, recommendations, reference models, and standards. In this Open Session, on Thursday 1st February from 09:00-10:30, it will look at the current state and future directions of SOA, and discuss its role and work program. If you are not already a member of the Working Group, this is an ideal opportunity to find out what it does and how it operates.
Semantic Interoperability and the UDEF(Thu)The Open Group's Semantic Interoperability Working Group and UDEF Forum are holding a combined meeting on Thursday February 1st to discuss the role of semantics in enterprise architecture and to progress work on the Universal Data Element Framework (UDEF), an enabler of semantic interoperability. This meeting is open to all conference delegates.
In addtion, for those wishing to find out about the UDEF in more detail, there will be an in-depth session on the UDEF and How to Use It in the morning of Wednesday, January 31st. All conference delegatesare welcome to attend
