| 3.00 - 3:30 | Introduction to TOGAF® Bill Estrem, President, Metaplexity Associates, US![]() ![]() TOGAF®, an Open Group Standard, is a proven enterprise architecture methodology and framework used by the world's leading organizations to improve business efficiency. It is the most prominent and reliable enterprise architecture standard, ensuring consistent standards, methods, and communication among enterprise architecture professionals. Enterprise architecture professionals fluent in TOGAF standards enjoy greater industry credibility, job effectiveness, and career opportunities. TOGAF helps practitioners avoid being locked into proprietary methods, utilize resources more efficiently and effectively, and realize a greater return on investment. First developed in 1995, TOGAF was based on the US Department of Defense Technical Architecture Framework for Information Management (TAFIM). From this sound foundation, The Open Group Architecture Forum has developed successive versions of TOGAF at regular intervals and published them on The Open Group public web site. TOGAF Version 9.1 is a maintenance update to TOGAF 9, addressing comments raised since the introduction of TOGAF 9 in 2009. It retains the major features and structure of TOGAF 9, thereby preserving existing investment in TOGAF, and adds further detail and clarification to what is already proven. The standard is divided into seven parts: PART I (Introduction): This part provides a high-level introduction to the key concepts of enterprise architecture and in particular the TOGAF approach. It contains the definitions of terms used throughout TOGAF and release notes detailing the changes between this version and the previous version of TOGAF. | |||

Have we also become legacy architects, applying our considerable skills and knowledge to the wrong problem? Is the architect’s dream of enterprise-wide, logical, and orderly business and technology systems even possible? Should that still be the architect’s goal or have the success parameters changed? Enterprise architects are rapidly approaching a cross-road where the path they take will affect their careers for years to come. Jeff Scott is an internationally recognized thought leader in the areas of business architecture, IT leadership, and organizational innovation. Prior to joining Accelare, Jeff was the principal analyst for business architecture with Forrester Research where he published over fifty research reports and provided strategic consulting to a wide variety of companies | Implementing TOGAF: Where to Start? Sven van Dijk, BiZZdesign North America, CanadaImplementing TOGAF: Where to Start?Sven van Dijk, BiZZdesign North America, Canada The power of Enterprise Architecture lies in its integrated nature. TOGAF supports EA by organizing people, processes, and technology in an integrated way. An integrated approach provides key stakeholders with greater insight and enables a common understanding of dealing with complexity at the enterprise level. This results in improved decision making in multiple areas including business IT-alignment, IT investment, risk management, outsourcing, etc. BiZZdesign assists clients around the globe with establishing EA practices and implementing TOGAF. We have seen organizations encounter TOGAF’s “many faces” which can make its implementation a challenging and even daunting task. Many EA teams also struggle to communicate the business value of TOGAF effectively in order to gain the essential buy-in. Implementing TOGAF is often much more a matter of evolution rather than revolution. BiZZdesign recommends to clients that successful initiatives are a result of EA teams approaching implementation as a journey that is broken down in a multitude of smaller initiatives that steadily lead to a more mature EA capability. BiZZdesign frequently advises clients to think big, but start small, and their next question often is: “Where do we start?” This presentation will delve into the question of how to define and manage such a federated approach. Not only will the TOGAF mechanisms be discussed, this presentation will also introduce a very practical method to manage and govern the TOGAF implementation process. This method is based on balanced-score cards, and it gives change managers the grip they need to succeed in the process of implementation and embedding of TOGAF in the organization. The presentation features experiences from real-life cases on how to identify, gain buy-in, set up, and manage the initiatives that kick-start the development of an EA practice. Topics covered will include:
Sven van Dijk is a consultant and trainer for BiZZdesign North America and has a decade of experience in working with methods and tools for BPM & EA in various project roles and industries such as utilities, finance, telecom. He studied Business Information Technology in Enschede, The Netherlands. |
| 2.45 - 3.30 | Who's Afraid of Big Data? Jason Bloomberg, President, ZapThink![]() Who's Afraid of Big Data?Jason Bloomberg, President, ZapThink Just how big are Big Data anyway? The best answer -- data sets too large for existing or traditional tools to handle -- leads to some difficult questions. Sure, we can leverage Hadoop or NoSQL in the Cloud or some other modern approach to deal with today's Big Data problems, but what about tomorrow, when Hadoop and the Cloud move to the "existing tools" category?
Jason Bloomberg is President of ZapThink, a Dovel Technologies Company. He is a global thought leader in the areas of Cloud Computing, Enterprise Architecture, and Service-Oriented Architecture. He created the Licensed ZapThink Architect (LZA) SOA course and associated credential, and runs the LZA course as well as his Cloud Computing for Architects course around the world. He is a frequent conference speaker and prolific writer, including as a regular columnist on US Government IT for CIO Magazine and blogger for DevX. Mr. Bloomberg is one of the original Managing Partners of ZapThink LLC, the leading SOA advisory and analysis firm, which was acquired by Dovel Technologies in August 2011. His book, Service Orient or Be Doomed! How Service Orientation Will Change Your Business (John Wiley & Sons, 2006, coauthored with Ron Schmelzer), is recognized as the leading business book on Service Orientation. His newest book, The Agile Architecture Revolution: How Cloud Computing, REST-based SOA, and Mobile Computing are Changing Enterprise IT (John Wiley & Sons), is due in the spring of 2013. Mr. Bloomberg has a diverse background in eBusiness technology management and industry analysis, including serving as a senior analyst in IDC’s eBusiness Advisory group, as well as holding eBusiness management positions at USWeb/CKS (later marchFIRST) and WaveBend Solutions (now Hitachi Consulting). He also co-authored the books XML and Web Services Unleashed (SAMS Publishing, 2002), and Web Page Scripting Techniques (Hayden Books, 1996).
| Business Storytelling 101 Nicklas Malik, Enterprise Strategy Architect, Microsoft Corporation, US![]() Business Storytelling 101Nicklas Malik, Enterprise Strategy Architect, Microsoft Corporation, US One of the most important skills of the Enterprise Architect is rarely taught in a training conference or university course: the ability to create and tell a clear, compelling, and memorable business story to leaders and managers in business settings. The ability to tell a compelling story can be the difference between a boring discussion of options and a memorable meeting that excites and motivates your audience to act. Nick Malik, co-author of "Stories That Move Mountains, Storytelling and Visual Design for Persuasive Presentations," will take you through a step-by-step process called CAST created by Nick and his co-authors Martin Sykes and Mark West. By following the CAST process, Nick will help you to create a memorable story, compose the visuals needed to tell it, and present it in a memorable way. After 30 years in high tech, Nick Malik has emerged as a leading voice in the field of Enterprise Architecture and Business Architecture. Along the way, Nick has found that one of the core skills of the Enterprise Architect is the ability to communicate, motivate, and inspire an audience of leaders and managers to act. He is here to share that experience. | Building a Business Transformation Capability Using TOGAF® Jason Uppal, Chief Architect, QRS, Canada![]() Building a Business Transformation Capability Using TOGAF®Jason Uppal, Chief Architect, QRS, Canada Learn how to: Define the Enterprise Architecture skills supply and demand gap in your organization Background and Context: “Discontinuities are often described as technological breakthroughs that help companies rewrite industry rules or create entirely new industries.” So what do organizations need in order to pounce on opportunities created by discontinuities? They need to position their Business Transformation as an Enterprise capability. As Dr. John Kotter pointed out in the November 2012 Harvard Business Review: most organizations have an excellent model to run the day-to-day business of the enterprise, however, they lack a similar process maturity in their ability to transform their business. This session will define how to build a Business Transformation Capability by leveraging your investment in TOGAF®. Topics Covered: The Business Transformation Capability and its Performance Indicators – performance of the process and business outcomes Additional Material: Three Position Papers that cover: Jason Uppal, P.Eng. was the first Master IT Architect certified by The Open Group, by direct review, in October 2005. At that point, Jason had been chief architect of QR Systems Inc (www.quickresponse.ca) for six years and had been providing senior Enterprise Architecture services. He holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, graduate degree in Economics and a post graduate diploma in Computer Science. Jason’s commitment to Enterprise Architecture Life Cycle (EALC) has led him to focus on training (TOGAF®), education (UOIT) and mentoring services to his clients as well as being the responsible individual for both Architecture and Portfolio & Project Management for a number of major projects. Jason has found that education is only beneficial to those companies who can industrialize the EALC process – staff must be able to implement what they have learned. To that end, he lead a team of java software developers to develop an end to end industrialization product which encapsulates Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio and Project Management, Project Management and IT Services Management processes. Implementing this software product, ITO, (www.itoProcesses.com.) permits companies to take full advantage of TOGAF® and any other custom processes which might already be in place within their organization |

But when you think about what this involves, it can seem like something of a miracle. This talk proposes a model for how a thought in my head becomes a thought in your head, and what has to happen for them to resemble one another. The model suggests ways of increasing the likelihood of this actually happening. An imaginary conversation about Goethe's Faust between the composers Franz Liszt and Gustav Mahler is used to explain the model. Len Fehskens is responsible for all activities relating to enterprise architecture at The Open Group. Prior to joining The Open Group, Len led the Worldwide Architecture Profession Office for HP Services at Hewlett-Packard. He majored in Computer Science at MIT, and has almost 40 years of experience in the IT business as both an individual contributor and a manager, within both product engineering and services business units. | ArchiMate Tutorial: Successful Enterprise Architecture Using the TOGAF® Framework and the ArchiMate® Modeling Language Henry Franken, CEO, BIZZdesign, The Netherlands![]() ArchiMate Tutorial: Successful Enterprise Architecture Using the TOGAF® Framework and the ArchiMate® Modeling LanguageHenry Franken, CEO, BIZZdesign, The Netherlands A complete approach to Enterprise Architecture (EA) requires: -- A framework describing architectural viewpoints; The TOGAF® 9 standard, an Open Group standard, is the defacto global standard for Enterprise Architecture. It is used by the world's leading organizations to improve business efficiency. ArchiMate®, an open and independent modelling language for enterprise architecture, provides instruments to enable enterprise architects to describe, analyze and visualize the relationships among business domains in an unambiguous way. It is supported by different tool vendors and consulting firms. Just as an architectural drawing in classical building architecture describes the various aspects of the construction and use of a building, ArchiMate offers a common language for describing the construction and operation of business processes, organizational structures, information flows, IT systems, and technical infrastructure. This insight helps stakeholders to design, assess, and communicate the consequences of decisions and changes within and between these business domains. standard is the leading language for integrated EA modelling, describing the business, application and technology layers and their relationships. In a recent update of the language, two extensions have been added for modelling the motivation for the architecture (e.g., goals, principles and business requirements) and implementation and migration planning. Based on a comprehensive case study of application portfolio rationalization in a post-merger insurance company, this presentation will show how ArchiMate is used with TOGAF to improve business efficiency. Key takeaways: -- Short introduction to the TOGAF® standard and the ArchiMate® EA modeling language Henry Franken is chair of the ArchiMate Forum at The Open Group. Henry is co-founder of the BPM Forum Netherlands. He has co-authored several international publications and Open Group white papers. At BiZZdesign, Henry is responsible for research and innovation. Alignment with and contribution to open standards are key. BiZZdesign has contributed to and edited the ArchiMate 2 specification. BiZZdesign is involved in the workgroup working towards the next version of TOGAF® and its alignment with ArchiMate®. BiZZdesign offers native tooling, consultancy and training for TOGAF and ArchiMate. BiZZdesign offers complete and integrated solutions (tools, methods, consultancy and training) to design and improve organizations. Enterprise architecture, business requirements management and process business analysis and management are important ingredients in the solutions.

Information is the new business currency. Have you been able to turn the massive volume, velocity, and variety of “big data” into practical knowledge? How will you proactively manage information-related business opportunity and risk? Does your company have 'shadow IT' and have you assessed the exposure? With multiple providers, do you have the governance processes in place to understand the solutions and risk to the whole enterprise? In a hybrid environment, you'll be hard pressed to respond to business needs with necessary agility while minimizing the enterprise's risk posture. This requires managing the information explosion, understanding the changing services model, technology components, critical processes and taking an end-to-end view. Mary Ann Mezzapelle is a Security Strategist for HP Enterprise Services. In that role, she is responsible for integrating technology strategy and planning capabilities across HP. She has worked with HP for over 20 years serving as business transformation and technology advisor to major clients in industries such as financial, insurance, travel, energy, transportation, and manufacturing . | The Energy Ecosystem Stuart Boardman, KPN, Netherlands; and Louis Dietvorst, Enexis, Netherlands![]() The Energy EcosystemStuart Boardman, KPN, Netherlands The energy market has undergone a transformation that would have been unthinkable 15 years ago. The new regulatory climate coupled with continuous innovation has led to the emergence of the smart grid. This in turn has created an ecosystem consisting of a large number of different types of contributors - larger probably than in any other market. It ranges from traditional players and wholesalers to consumer/producers. Distributed systems are seen as the key to continuity of service. Farmers emerge as key players in the local marketplace. Local government plays an increasingly active role in promoting sustainable energy solutions making it too a service provider. Nowhere is the internet of things as much a reality as in this market. And energy providers have an increasingly important role as information service providers. At the same time we see a timely awareness of ecosystems and extended enterprise developing in the world of enterprise architecture. How will this ecosystem manage itself? In our presentation we'll look at the market/ ecosystem from the perspective of several typical parties. We examine how enterprise architecture can help to ensure this new ecosystem is and remains viable and effective. Intended audience: Enterprise Architects, Energy market specialists, Innovation Managers, anyone interested in innovation and emergence. Key takeaways: Stuart Boardman (pictured) has been active in IT and enterprise architecture for 25 years after trying to make a career as a musician. His focus has always been on the effective adoption of innovation and on dealing with unpredictability and change. He currently represents KPN as an enterprise architect with energy sector clients and runs the EA development programme within KPN Consulting. He is a founding member of The Open Group's SOA and Cloud work groups and particularly active in the TOGAF For Cloud Ecosystems project. Stuart thinks EA should be challenging, business focused and above all fun. Fortunately he's not the only one. | Certification for Risk Analysts Jim Hietala, Vice President, Security, The Open Group![]() Certification for Risk AnalystsJim Hietala, VP Security, The Open Group Risk analysis has grown to be a critical function in enterprises. It covers the whole spectrum of eHealth for over 80 Mio. citizen and over 100K HIT service points, including medical professionals, pharmacies, hospital, health care insurances etc. The core architecture of the German HIT infrastructure is based on the SOA paradigm, which we will introduce and co-notate in this case study. Presenting a real world case that presents the capabilities of distributed, inter-operable systems design based on SOA principles. Key takeaways: Stipe Tolj is Executive Officer and Chief System Architect of the Kannel Software Foundation (KSF). Previously being Chief Technology Officer of Wapme Systems AG, a German stock quoted pioneer company in mobile wireless application technologies, dedicated Platform Manager of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). Project managers are able to check the box which says "secured the system". Customers feel good when they see that padlocck on their browser because they know everything is safe. Malware writers, at whom this entire effort is aimed, are as concerned as the thief who knows the front door is locked but the back door isn't. Securing our architectures is far more then just adding SSL near the end of a project. Security needs to start as far back as the customer and needs to be evaluated at every stage in the project. Securing an architecture means looking at ones architecture, not as a single architect or developer from an internal view point but as an group of extremely capable and devious developers from an external view point. Intended audience: Architects & developers dealing with security
Greg Sternberg is a Solutions/Security Architect at Jeppesen, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing. He works with all facets of software engineering, primarily addressing security, compliance and architectural issues. He chaired Jeppesen's Security and Software Engineering CoPs and developed the security and compliance processes for Jeppesen's standandardized software process. He has served as security consultant for a variety of groups and individuals and has taught classes. He is a published author and speaker, speaking at previous Open Group conferences. He currently holds a CISSP and is TOGAF certified. He is an active member of ISSA and former ISSA Connect Council.

| 9.45 - 10.30 | Panel Discussion: Architecting for Big Data in the Cloud Leader: Chris Harding, Director for Interoperability, The Open Group, UK![]() Panel Discussion: Architecting for Big Data in the CloudModerator: Chris Harding, Director for Interoperability, The Open Group, UK Panelists: Tom Plunkett, Senior Consultant, Oracle, US; Mark Skilton, Director, Strategy Office, Capgemini, UK; and TJ Virdi, Senior Enterprise Architect, The Boeing Company, US Big data is emerging as a new processing and data-storage power, driving growth and creating change through new business use patterns. Most existing IT architecture is not designed for massive data processing and storage, but cloud computing based on virtualization promises distributed, vast, cheap storage, with computational power to handle complex processing on demand. The question for architects is, how can this promise best be delivered for their enterprises? The panel session will help architects to answer this question. It will discuss aspects such as the business drivers for big data, whether and when to use virtualization with big data, solution patterns, and tools. Chris Harding is Director for Interoperability with The Open Group, UK. | Strategy to Execution: Translating Strategy into Results Jeff Scott, VP Business & Technology Strategy, Accelare, Inc., US![]() Strategy to Execution: Translating Strategy into ResultsJeff Scott, VP Business & Technology Strategy, Accelare, Inc., US Business and technology architects struggle because there is a vital business process that is being ignored in your company today. It is unnamed, poorly defined, largely unmanaged, and therefore rarely improved upon. Yet, it affects every other business process you operate. It is the strategy-to-execution process that clarifies executive intent, translates it into coordination action, measures value realization, and creates a feedback loop. When this process is sub-optimized the entire organization suffers. Most organizations view strategy development as a one-time event intended to create focus and identify yearly projects. However, as strategies move across and down the organization they often become distorted resulting in diluted business impact and wasted resources. What is needed is a well-defined process to manage the translation of executive strategy into coordinated execution. This session will provide a framework for a strategy-to-execution process that creates focused and coordinated action and case studies of how it has dramatically improved business performance. Key takeaways: Jeff Scott is an internationally recognized thought leader in the areas of business architecture, IT leadership, and organizational innovation. Prior to joining Accelare, Jeff was the principal analyst for business architecture with Forrester Research where he published over fifty research reports and provided strategic consulting to a wide variety of companies. | |

| 11.00 - 11.45 | Measuring XaaS Business Performance Penelope Gordon, Cloud Strategist, 1Plug Corporation, US![]() Measuring XaaS Business PerformancePenelope Gordon, Cloud Strategist, 1Plug Corporation, US The business performance targets used by savvy venture capitalists to guide their investments in XaaS start-ups are different from those guiding their investments in software, custom service, or Web application start-ups. Similarly, investors and other stakeholders of organizations shifting to a XaaS business model should adapt their business performance criteria. Through case studies, this session will describe a method for adapting the metrics and objectives used to measure the business performance of a non-XaaS organization for use in measuring the performance of a XaaS organization - where 'XaaS organization' refers to a government agency responsible for a community cloud, a group within an IT Department responsible for a private cloud, and to a XaaS business unit within an otherwise non-XaaS company as well as to a pure-play XaaS company. Penelope Gordon specializes in adoption strategies for cloud and other emerging technologies and portfolio management of early stage innovation. While with IBM, she led innovation, strategy, and product development efforts for all of IBM's product and service divisions and helped to design, implement, and manage one of the world's first public clouds. | Five Challenges Implementing Enterprise Architecture Dario Vargas, Chief Architect, Unycorp, MexicoFive Challenges Implementing Enterprise ArchitectureDario Vargas, Chief Architect, Unycorp, Mexico When a company decides to implement Enterprise Architecture, they have some challenges to face, a correct decision, a clear strategy, the necessary tools, the governance approach, and a continuous improvement are just some points I have noticed in different clients of different verticals such as health, oil and gases, energy and insurance, This case study raises all of these challenges, which help both those interested in starting an enterprise architecture, and enterprise architects facing these challenges every day.
