| 9:30 - 10:15 | Leadership, Systems Thinking and Complexity Management: Charting the Future of EA Dr. Pallab Saha, Institute of Systems Science, National University of Singapore![]() Leadership, Systems Thinking and Complexity Management: Charting the Future of EADr. Pallab Saha, Institute of Systems Science, National University of Singapore Governments are changing, by design, necessity and compulsion. This change is being exacerbated and shaped by megaforces that interact in a complex labyrinth of evolving nodes and connections. As a result, today's government leaders and policy makers operate in the realm of confounding uncertainties and astounding complexities. These lead to incomplete and often non-actionable information that make decisions increasingly speculative. To unlock the grid and move forward, it is being acknowledged that governments of the future have to be connected. Connected government is no utopia. It is simply a pragmatic approach to capitalize on complexity. Enterprise Architecture (EA) as a metadiscipline provides governments and leaders the means to address the twin challenges of dynamism and complexity. As governments become increasingly hyperconnected, they ought to be examined as systems, where holism, causality, heterarchy and interrelationships are crucial to ensuring overall coherence in a state of omnipresent flux. This contrasts with the traditional fixation on efficiency and cost. Going beyond the rhetoric, this session demonstrates the value of amalgamating the systems approach within EA methodology to address a national priority in Singapore, and provides insights to amplify the impact of EA by integrating creative thinking to tackle complex problems that enterprise transformation brings forth. Intended audience: Chief Architects, Business Analysts;.Transformation Specialists; Consultants & Practitioners; CIOs, Chief Str Officers Key takeaways:
Dr. Pallab Saha's current research, consulting and teaching interests include Enterprise Architecture (EA) and Governance. Dr. Saha has published four books: Handbook of Enterprise Systems Architecture in Practice; Advances in Government Identified as a Technology Thought Leader by Forrester, Dr. Saha is the primary author of the Methodology for AGency ENTerprise Architecture (MAGENTA) and Government EA Guidebook for the Government of Singapore and has led them to international prominence. Earlier, as Head of Development, Dr. Saha managed Baxter's offshore centre in Bangalore. He has had engagements in Fortune 100 organizations in various capacities. Dr. Saha holds a Ph.D in Management (Information Systems) from theIndian Institute of Science, Bangalore and has received the best research design and best thesis awards. He is an alumnus of the MIT Sloan Executive Program. | ||

| 4:40 - 5:20 | Application Integration Architecture: Standardization & Role of EA (Insurance) Hirok Choudhury, Enterprise Architect, Global Technology Officer, Cognizant Technology Solution![]() Application Integration Architecture: Standardization & Role of EA (Insurance)Hirok Choudhury, Enterprise Architect, Global Technology Officer, Cognizant Technology Solution This presentation relates to a general insurance company in India. The IT landscape has many redundant and inappropriate components and the primary reason found was the exponential business growth. Applications such as policy admin, claims, agent management system, online portal were individually supporting the business functions as desired. However, wherever integration was required among the applications, problems started to creep in resulting in delayed and undesired quality of project delivery. This led the senior management of IL to initiate an assessment of integration architecture in order to get a future state and road map defined. Integration was difficult because of the existing spaghetti mess created due to uncontrolled use of DBLink. As part of the assessment, Cognizant conducted multiple face-to-face sessions with various application owners to understand the current integration landscape and associated constraints. Based on their inputs, a list of observation was derived and used to identify gaps between the current state and the future reference middleware architecture. The consolidated gaps were plotted on a 3 year roadmap. Key takeaways:
Hirok Jyoti Dutta-Choudhury has over 12 years of professional experience in IT, predominantly (10+ years) in the insurance industry. For last 6 years Hirok has been working in IT architecture and consulting services. With the increased availability, the value of the artifacts and in turn the value of architecture overall increased dramatically. Hence the interactive Business Architecture Framework (iBAF) was born. The iBAF has become the standard language that the organization uses to describe their work processes and the scope of their projects. Riding on the success wave, similar tools for other EA domains were developed such as the EASE (Enterprise Architecture Search Engine) and interactive Data Dictionary. These tools have become the standard for how Architecture artifacts and EA data is consumed interactively today in P&G.

| 2:00 - 2:45 | Financial Inclusion Driven by Inter-operable Cloud Architecture Satya Mishra, CEO, cEdge India![]() Financial Inclusion Driven by Inter-operable Cloud ArchitectureSatya Mishra, CEO, cEdge India The objective of Financial Inclusion (FI) is to extend financial services to the large hitherto un-served population of the country to unlock its growth potential. In addition, it strives towards a more inclusive growth by making financing available to the poor in particular. Recognizing that technology has the potential to address the issues of outreach and credit delivery in rural and remote areas in a viable manner, banks have been advised to make effective use of information and communications technology (ICT), to provide doorstep banking services through the Business Correspondent (BC) model where financial transactions can be carried out by illiterate customers assisted by a BC and using biometrics as an additional authenticator, thus ensuring the security of transactions and enhancing confidence in the banking system. TCS has been working with leading commercial banks in the implementing the technology backbone for FI. TCS solution is based on open architecture which can offer multiple financial services, across channels (mobile, PoS, kiosk, etc.) to banks and the partner agencies. In addition a part of the solution is available from a cloud infrastructure providing unique benefits of cost and time to implement. For its ability to scale, robustness and inter-operablity, TCS FI solution has been reconginzed as the leader in this segment. Satya Mishra has 20 years of industry experience having joined TCS in 1993. In TCS, he holds the role of Head of Business Solutions, India. In his current role, he is focusing on bringing new business solutions and services to Indian companies in different industries leveraging on technologies such as cloud and mobility. | 2:45 - 3:30 | Business Transformation and Enterprise Architecture Jason Uppal, Chief Architect, QRS![]() ![]() Business Transformation and Enterprise ArchitectureJason Uppal, Chief Architect, QRS To remain competitive in today’s economy, organizations need two broad capabilities:
Most organizations have the right structure and resources to support the first capability but many often lack the fundamental building blocks to deliver change. This is evidenced by the number of ICT or transformation centric investments that fail to deliver expected returns. How can you be certain that your organization has the capability to identify opportunities and pounce on them quickly? This presentation will outline:
Jason Uppal, P.Eng. was the first Master IT Architect certified by The Open Group, by direct review, in October 2005. At that point, Jason had been chief architect of QR Systems Inc (www.quickresponse.ca) for six years and had been providing senior Enterprise Architecture services. He holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, graduate degree in Economics and a post graduate diploma in Computer Science. Jason’s commitment to Enterprise Architecture Life Cycle (EALC) has led him to focus on training (TOGAF), education (UOIT) and mentoring services to his clients as well as being the responsible individual for both Architecture and Portfolio & Project Management for a number of major projects. Jason has found that education is only beneficial to those companies who can industrialize the EALC process – staff must be able to implement what they have learned. To that end, he lead a team of java software developers to develop an end to end industrialization product which encapsulates Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio and Project Management, Project Management and IT Services Management processes. Implementing this software product, ITO, (www.itoProcesses.com.) permits companies to take full advantage of TOGAF and any other custom processes which might already be in place within their organization.
