| 15:30-16.00pm | Introduction to TOGAF® 9.1 (.5 CPD) David Jackson, Chief Enterprise Architect, Architecting-the-Enterprise, US
TOGAF® Version 9.1Enterprise Edition TOGAF®, an Open Group Standard, is a proven enterprise architecture methodology and framework used by the world's leading organizations to improve business efficiency. It is the most prominent and reliable enterprise architecture standard, ensuring consistent standards, methods, and communication among enterprise architecture professionals. Enterprise architecture professionals fluent in TOGAF standards enjoy greater industry credibility, job effectiveness, and career opportunities. TOGAF helps practitioners avoid being locked into proprietary methods, utilize resources more efficiently and effectively, and realize a greater return on investment. First developed in 1995, TOGAF was based on the US Department of Defense Technical Architecture Framework for Information Management (TAFIM). From this sound foundation, The Open Group Architecture Forum has developed successive versions of TOGAF at regular intervals and published them on The Open Group public web site. TOGAF Version 9.1 is a maintenance update to TOGAF 9, addressing comments raised since the introduction of TOGAF 9 in 2009. It retains the major features and structure of TOGAF 9, thereby preserving existing investment in TOGAF, and adds further detail and clarification to what is already proven. The standard is divided into seven parts:

| 10:30-11:05am | Why We Can't Agree on What We Mean by Enterprise Architecture Leonard Fehskens, VP Skills and Capabilities, The Open Group, US![]() The enterprise architecture is having a difficult time converging on a consensus as to what business architecture in particular, and enterprise architecture in general, is about. There is a proliferation of definitions of both concepts, and all of these definitions are nitpicked from within the community. As the discipline seeks true professional status, we will have to some agreement as to what it is we are doing. What is it about the subject, or the way we think about the subject, that is making this agreement so elusive? This presentation will explore the many unspoken and often incompatible assumptions we make about what we do, and what we can do to make them explicit and perhaps ultimately reconcile them. Those who attend this session will:

This presentation will explore the elements discussed in the article in which the following was presented; The word architect has always been synonymous with the design and construction of buildings. However, the IT community has now adopted this term to describe individuals whose primary objectives are centred on the design and delivery of process and system blueprints. This term architect, independent of the selected architectural framework the organisation has adopted, is now appended onto too many roles in IT departments, particularly those previously associated with subject matter experts. This tagging has resulted in confusion surrounding the demarcation between that of the activity and that of the responsibility of the individual. During this presentation we provide a brief description of the main architectural roles(Enterprise, Solution & Technical) , the associated duties, the key ‘real world’ deliverables and some basic characteristics and experience one should expect from such an individual. Those attending this session will:
Daljit Banger is a London-based fellow of the British Computer Society & CEO of S-EA-T.COM Ltd (UK). Daljit has 27 years solid IT Industry experience, having undertaken assignments in the USA, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Hong Kong to name but a few, on behalf of large multi-national companies. | 14:00-14:45pm | Managing Business Capabilities - Segway for Enterprise Transformation Jean-Claude Franchitti, CognizantEnterprise Business Architecture, is in a sense, a model of business capabilities. Business capabilities help realize enterprise strategies and typically bring the true enterprise flavor as it operates at a level above internal departmental boundaries. The ambit of business capabilities now spreads far outside of 'external' enterprise boundary - in an increasingly flat world, no company dreams to create all business capabilities in house. It is more important than ever before to have a clear view of 'core' and 'noncore' capabilities, and understand
We plan to propose a model and discuss how by applying the model of business capabilities, enterprises can manage and guide their own evolution through the world of mergers and divestitures. Those attending this sessions will learn about:

TOGAF® 9, an Open Group standard, is the defacto global standard for Enterprise Architecture. It is used by the world's leading organizations to improve business efficiency. ArchiMate®, an open and independent modelling language for enterprise architecture, provides instruments to enable enterprise architects to describe, analyze and visualize the relationships among business domains in an unambiguous way. It is supported by different tool vendors and consulting firms. Just as an architectural drawing in classical building architecture describes the various aspects of the construction and use of a building, ArchiMate offers a common language for describing the construction and operation of business processes, organizational structures, information flows, IT systems, and technical infrastructure. This insight helps stakeholders to design, assess, and communicate the consequences of decisions and changes within and between these business domains. standard is the leading language for integrated EA modelling, describing the business, application and technology layers and their relationships. In a recent update of the language, two extensions have been added for modelling the motivation for the architecture (e.g., goals, principles and business requirements) and implementation and migration planning. Based on a comprehensive case study of application portfolio rationalization in a post-merger insurance company, this presentation will show how ArchiMate is used with TOGAF to improve business efficiency. Promoting a common way to describe them would make it possible for everyone to search and discover them. The European Commission, in the context of the ISA programme, has created a Working Group of Experts to define a common European metadata vocabulary to describe artefacts relevant to interoperability. The Asset Description Metadata Schema (ADMS) will enable the description of artefacts in a common way throughout Europe. From mid 2012, the Joinup platform, implemented under the ISA programme, will make it possible for ADMS implementers to upload the descriptions of their artefacts according to ADMS. This will enable the creation of a federation of semantic artefacts. Through this federation, semantic artefacts will become retrievable and available via a single point of access. Those attending this session will learn to understand:
João Rodrigues Frade is a Senior Manager in the PwC Technology Consulting practice, focusing on systems interoperability via the use of service-oriented architecture (SOA), cloud technologies and enterprise architecture (EA). | 11:30-12:05pm | WORKSHOP: Architecting the Future: Cloud, Mobility and Analytics. A workshop on framing and constructing architectural artifacts to enable business innovation Daniel Spar, Enterprise Architecture Practice Champion, Deloitte Consulting New technologies in cloud computing, mobility devices and analytics provide extensive opportunities. However, new technology alone will not address business objectives. Performance and security requirements must be addressed by the new technology solutions as well, and these must be directly linked to business requirements, with clear "line-of-sight." With the proposed TOGAF®-based enterprise architecture approach, organizations can leverage new technology to achieve much of The Open Group's "Boundaryless Information Flow" vision. A scenario-based technique will be presented as well to illustrate effective ways to document and analyze this approach. Those who attend this session will learn how:

You can follow Remco on twitter via @blomr | How to Maximize EAM Value by Optimal Anchoring in the Organization Aneta Nowobilska, Detecon International GmbH, Germany![]() Based on experience from numerous projects in global enterprises, we observe that EAM brings the most significant benefits once it is mature enough and properly anchored in the organization. At our customer companies, we see a shift from the typical bisection between business and IT to a central area for business and IT planning with a strong EAM focus as a necessary step to optimal positioning of the EAM in the organization.
Based on the elements of the architecture capability as described in TOGAF® 9, we established differently the architecture board in these organizations. Also the interplay of relevant roles, in particular the architects and their involvement in the enterprise-wide process model is different in these two cases. Taking the TOGAF® 9 architecture capability as starting point, we developed it further together with our customers and derived specific training programs for enterprise architects enabling realization of the holistic TOGAF®9-like EAM function in described organization types. We trained about 300 architects in these organizations. We present respective findings from these projects and enrich the core content of this speech by comparisons to other branches such as telecommunication and automotive. Those attending this session will:

These applications span the management of virtual servers, network and storage resources. However, there is not an open standard for these APIs. Similar work in this area is exemplified by the success of DMTF - OVF (Distributed Management Task Force – Open Virtualization Format). [1] The OVF xml data type definition is widely adopted by virtual management system. The OVF XML is capable of defining virtual resources require to create a virtual server (VS) and the software manifest to provision the VS. This OVF is created and used by the Management Console (MC). OVF is ubiquitous standard, which owes is success to VMware’s adoption and leadership in the DMTF standard process. However there are no similar standards for advanced and specialized virtual management functions, such as network Intrusion Prevention Systems. Such functionality typically runs within a Privileged Virtual Machine (PVM). The PVM is commonly running a UNIX or Linux based OS to support the general needs of the advanced virtual management application. This presentation will describe a new proposed AVOS standards effort. This proposed standard will benefit the advanced virtual management application by providing a standardized set of APIs within the PVM to monitor and control the virtual system. | The Architecture Management Office, Instrumental to Successful Enterprise Architecture Adoption Peter Thomsen, Cisco Services, Germany![]() In this session I will discuss how the Architecture Management Office concept combined with a formal change management strategy can be used to establish Enterprise Architecture. The Architecture Management Office (AMO) provides architecture governance and architectural advice, owns and drive the process of translating business vision and strategy into effective enterprise change by creating, communicating and improving the key requirements, principles and models that describe the enterprise's future state and enable its evolution. Gartner’s Change Management Framework (CMF) outlines the elements of EA-enabled organizational change management as a way to overcome the top barriers of change and thereby ensuring a more successful architecture effort. The model is simpler and more practical than many academic approaches pitched by the change management industry. The clear benefit of taking this approach is it overcomes the obstacles to change and ensures a clear link between Enterprise business- and IT-strategy. The AMO+CMF ultimately warrants a fit-for-purpose enterprise architecture that is agile and transparent, capable of responding faster to market changes. Those who attend this session will learn how the:

| 9:45-10.30am | Architecture for Social Business - Is it a Cloud? Stuart Boardman, Senior Business Consultant, KPN Consulting, Netherlands ![]() Social Business creates some new challenges for enterprise architecture and for IT architecture. A social business is by definition an extended enterprise. Information Technology is a more or less essential component of a social business – not just a support function but actually a defining element of doing business. The information technology services that make a social business social are overwhelmingly delivered out of the Cloud. In fact a social business can be envisaged as a sort of Cloud (but not just computing). It involves collaboration in networks of people at all levels both within and (potentially) outside the organization. That in turn means that not everything can or should be captured as fixed rules - that we need to actively engage with change and uncertainty. This presentation will look at both how to do enterprise architecture under these circumstances and how the IT architecture of this ecosystem of parties and systems can benefit from Cloud models. Those who attend this session will learn:
Stuart Boardman has been involved in IT for more than 25 years but still likes to regard himself as an outsider. As a business consultant for KPN Consulting he co-leads both the EA and Cloud practices. He is also co-chair of The Open Group "Security for the Cloud and SOA" project. Stuart's work requires him to understand and relate the concerns of business strategists at one extreme and technology architects at the other - and sometimes he succeeds! In his spare time Stuart plays music (his original professional ambition), runs and tries not to get too upset about the state of the world. | Utilizing the EMMMv Reference Models Within a Mining Environment David David, Manager, Enterprise Architecture,Rio Tinto, UK![]() Joint presentation by EMMMv forum. | 11:45am-12:30pm | Open Service Federation Framework Dipanjan Sengupta, Principal Architect, Cognizant Technology Solutions, US![]() The Open Service Federation Framework addresses the need for automated, rule-based sharing of service and service artifacts across different domains within an enterprise or across enterprises. These domains or enterprises may have their service registries implemented on different technology stacks. The framework allows the federation architect to define the relationship model between the different domains of an enterprise and set up the rules for the sharing of service and service artifacts between the federated domains. The framework, besides creating the entry for the service in the registry of the target domain and triggering the appropriate workflow for its adoption, also creates the proxy for the service in the mediation infrastructure (typically an enterprise service bus) of the target domain, as and when the service is accepted. Those who attend this session will learn about:
Dipanjan Sengupta is a leader in the Center of Excellence for Advanced Service-Oriented Architecture within the Global Technology Office of Cognizant Technology Solutions. Dipanjan leads the innovations around federated service-oriented architectures and service-oriented enterprise integrations. He has conceived and developed numerous technology-neutral frameworks and solution accelerators to handle complex service federation and integration scenarios for various business domains | Greenfield Enterprise Architecture Implementation Salim Sheikh, IT Strategy Advisor, Integrating the Enterprise, UK![]() Transforming a business often requires focus on people, process and technology. While a lot of effort is spent on process and technology, the people who will sustain any change and drive real innovation are often an afterthought. What role does EA play in building a team culture for a sustainable transformation initiative? How do you introduce EA as a new concept in an Organisation? Where do you start when no formal processes or practices exist? How do you turn around an IT organisation that has suffered from no leadership or strategy? This case study outlines answers to some of these questions and outlines how to establish EA in a way that promotes idea sharing and mutual respect. Those attending this session will learn:

| 14:00-14:45pm | Application and Process Integration in the Cloud: Key Challenges and Remedial Strategies Samrat Ray, Senior Principal Product Manager, Oracle Business Integration GroupAlong with the continuously increasing cloud computing momentum the integration of applications and business processes in the context of cloud computing, typically a highly distributed environment, is posing some newer challenges and resurrecting some of the old ones. While we have made significant progress in the application and process integration realm in the past two decades with better disciplines of SOA, data handling and BPM, in a rush to combine and leverage the information assets of multiple cloud based applications there appears to be a re-emergence of the older point-to-point (P2P) and ad hoc integration which, as we have already witnessed before, will invariably lead to the expensive, rigid and unreliable “integration spaghetti”. Transactionality, end-to-end transaction visibility and exception handling are also challenges for a multi-app/multi-cloud solution. This presentation will summarize the main integration patterns applicable to various styles of cloud implementation, identify some of the key challenges and suggest appropriate remedial strategies. Those attending this session will learn about:
| Assessing Architectural Significance James Hosey, Senior Consultant, Systems Flow, Inc., US![]() Knowing when and where to engage an architect is a critical factor in successfully managing an IT portfolio, particularly in organizations where architects are scarce -- and often expensive -- resources. Many times it is clear which projects would benefit from the participation of an architect; in other cases, the decision is not so obvious. In these not-so-obvious cases, a structured means of assessing a project's architectural significance is key. This instructional session presents a lightweight, flexible set of techniques and guidelines for assessing the architectural significance of a project to aid in determining when to engage an architect. Using real-world examples, we will demonstrate these techniques and their application, and will explore how they can be tailored to fit IT organizations of different sizes and with various portfolio mixes. Those attending this session will learn about:
James Hosey is a senior consultant with Systems Flow, Inc., where he presently provides architectural guidance in commercial banking. Over his 20-year career, Jim has managed and executed all phases of the SDLC, delivering solutions in domains that include: financial services, logistics, marketing, communications, and management training & development. | Transforming Into a Knowledge-Based Enterprise Using TOGAF® Robert Weisman, CEO, Build The Vision, Inc., Canada![]() Boundaryless Information Flow has never been more crucial than now in a post-industrial knowledge-based economy. Becoming an analytical competititor and/or master of service delivery requires the marshalling of enterprise knowledge to enable competitive analytics and decision support. Whether the enterprise is a private sector company, a government department, academia or a non-government organization, the ability to leverage the extensive information holdings now available require a focused knowledge/information architecture that deals with information in all of its forms and gets the right information to the right person at the right time. This presentation elaborates the creation of an enterprise knowledge architecture in an extended TOGAF 9 context going from vision to execution. It incorporates the latest innovations in competitive analytics, government (including defence/defense), the Data Management Association(DAMA/DMBOK) and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA/COBIT). Robert Weisman, CEO, Build the Enterprise, Inc., Canada. Robert Weisman MSc, PEng, PMP, CD has an extensive background in plans and operations in the private and public sectors. He has been using Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF / TAFIM in particular) since 1993 as an integral part of transforming large organizations particularly in defence, environment and single window government. He has used business scenarios and conducted requirements management extensively in large endeavours and completed formal studies in knowledge-based systems, specializing in decision support and competitive analytics. Robert is an active member of The Open Group and DAMA and lectures /teaches in both French and English. | ||||||
| 14:45-15:30pm | Facts Beat Hypes: Ignite Your Cloud Journey with Solid EA Arguments Andre Pedro, Senior Manager, Deloitte, Portugal; and Patrick Buech, Senior Product Manager, Software AG Cloud Computing is no longer a buzzword, it is here to stay. Characteristics like on-demand self-service, ubiquitous network access, rapid elasticity and pay per use capture the attention of every CIO pursuing infrastructure, cost reduction and service quality improvement. The benefits are well known but justifying a migration to the cloud may not be so easy to communicate and, above all, quantify. Most of time, the problem resides on the lack of trusty information to develop a proper business case to justify a Cloud Computing service adoption. To develop a business case for Cloud Computing adoption, two key questions must be answered:
These questions require qualitative analysis (business value, strategic importance, appetite for risk, financial investment, resource availability) and quantitative analysis (on-premise vs. cloud service cost model, differentiated service model (e.g. IaaS vs. SaaS), cost saving). T he apparent simplicity of the above analysis hides the complexity in getting it done correctly. We propose a 2-step approach
For this to be carried out, a combination of EA-specific & Financial Analysis capabilities is required (i) modeling and relating business, application and technology architectures; (ii) analyzing architecture towards detailing application costs, business impacts and technical impacts; & (iii) financial modeling to quantify benefits, costs, and key decision-making financials (eg cash-flow dynamics, net present value & pay-back). We believe that adopting this approach will bring Cloud discussions to more factual, value-driven and “CxO appealing” speech, thus helping to steer through the much-hyped though inevitable Cloud trend. Those attending this session will learn:
