Enterprise Transformation and the Role of Open Standards

Enterprise transformation seems to be gathering momentum within the enterprise architecture community. The term, enterprise transformation, suggests the process of fundamentally changing an enterprise. Sometimes the transformation is dramatic but for most of us it is a steady process.

Bio:

Allen Brown is President and CEO of The Open Group – a global consortium that enables the achievement of business objectives through IT standards. He is also President of the Association of Enterprise Architects (AEA).

For over 10 years Allen has been responsible for driving The Open Group’s strategic plan and day-to-day operations, including extending its reach into new global markets, such as China, the Middle East, South Africa and India. In addition, he was instrumental in the creation of the AEA, which was formed to increase job opportunities for all of its members and elevate their market value by advancing professional excellence.

Prior to joining The Open Group, Allen Brown held a range of senior financial and general management roles both within his own consulting firm, which he founded in 1987, and other multi-national organizations.

Allen is TOGAF® 9 certified, an MBA alumnus of the London Business School and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
 

The Importance of the Enterprise Architecture Governance for an Enterprise Transformation Journey. The IBM Internal Case

The imperatives for business success in the twenty-first century are changing business at a rapid pace. As the world becomes "smaller" sets a new scenario, bringing great challenges and opportunities that trigger significant changes in organizations. For this reason, their leaders are seeking the best approaches for developing and directing successful transformations. The belief that we are entering a new era of global integration shaped the transformation strategy of IBM in recent years, a journey in which the Enterprise Architecture plays a key role. This lecture will present the case of IBM internal transformation and the importance of governance of enterprise architecture in this transformation journey.

A Importância da Governança da Arquitetura Corporativa na Jornada de Transformação de uma Empresa. O Caso Interno da IBM.

Resumo:  Os imperativos para o sucesso dos negócios no século XXI estão mudando as empresas em um ritmo acelerado. À medida em que o mundo fica "menor", um novo cenário se configura, trazendo grandes desafios e oportunidades que desencadeiam mudanças significativas nas organizações. Por essa razão, seus líderes estão buscando as melhores abordagens para desenvolver e direcionar transformações bem-sucedidas. A crença de que entramos em uma nova era de integração mundial moldou a estratégia de transformação da IBM nos últimos anos, uma jornada na qual a Arquitetura Corporativa desempenha um papel fundamental. Esta palestra apresentará o caso interno de transformação da IBM e a importância da governança da arquitetura corporativa nessa jornada de transformação.

He started his career in 1988 as programmer and joined IBM in 1992, where he works, since 2005, as an Architect. He is the leader of the Architects Profession in IBM Latin America, member of the IBM Architects Career Americas Certification Board, member of the IBM Academy of Technology. He has a Bachelor degree in Mathematics (UERJ) and Mastery in Computer Science and Engineering (COPPE/UFRJ).

I'm a senior partner at InstiSys, a TRM consultancy in Brazil, working as Enterprise Architect for Financial Services solutions, working with Trading, Risk Management, Compliance and Analytical Platforms (BI, EPM). Also working with strategic alliances building (Trading, Risk, HFT and Commodities platforms). As an IT executive working at enterprieses market for the last 25 years, in the areas of Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Applications Strategy (plan, build, evolution and chenge management) and Business Process Inovation Management, for several industries, like Financial Services, Telco, CPG Agribusienss and Retail, my main focus is Financial Services. Retail, Corporate, Capital Markets (Buy Side and Sell Side), Exchanges, Brokerage and facilities (Clearing, Resgistry, Depositary, and so). I have AMBIMA CPA-20 certification and I'm working on FinRa Series 3, 4, 6, 7, 14, 56, 63, and 65 for 2012. CFA at 2013 and a Master in Economics (Risk Management) for 2015.
 
I majored in Economic Sciences and hold an Executive MBA in Marketing at ESPM/SP. Now, I'm preparing a dissertation about Innovation Cycles in emerging markets and intend to attain a PhD on this topic within the next 5 years.
 
Also, I am a professor at the MBA courses in Brasil at BSP/SP (Laurentis group), for Technology Innovation, Complexity Management and Enterprise Architecture.

Como jornalista, foi colunista do grupo IDG e atualmente dedica-se a um blog sobre as novas cadeias de valor geradas através dos efeitos econômicos das redes sociais, além de gestão da inovação tecnológica. Rodrigo Antao, COO, Apura

Rodrigo is a professional with over 12 years experience in the technology industry, as an executive he is recognized as the consultant on digital security and investigations for some of the largest Brazilian companies.

During his career, he has successfully developed markets for computer forensics, electronic expertise, eDiscovery and incident response nationwide, working with clients, understanding their challenges in fighting fraud, information security needs and providing effective solutions enabling them to reach their goals.

Rodrigo studied Business Administration with emphasis in entrepreneurship and strategic management at PUC-MG and has prior experience working as Business Development Manager, Product Manager, Technical Account Manager and Systems Engineer. EA and Cloud Computing: Taking Strategy to the Clouds

Today, cloud computing is on the agenda of many CEOs and CIOs, and they talk a lot about the underlying technology to make it happen: virtualization! You also hear about OPEX and CAPEX, but where is the business? Who's listening to the real strategic drivers to adopt cloud computing?

This presentation shows how to attach and govern real strategic objectives to a cloud computing initiative: quick wins, teams, mistakes, and process. You will find out that cloud computing isn't a new IT architecture, but rather an initiative that has to be very close to the organization’s strategy, sometimes an important piece in the Enterprise Architecture puzzle.

Possui certificação PMP, e PEAF (Pragmatic Enterprise Architecture Framework - Trainer / Professional) obtida em Londres no ano de 2011 diretamente com o fundador da "Pragmatic EA" - Kevin Smith, Traduziu o "TOGAF 9.1 - A Pocket Guide" e o Livro Introduction to PEAF" proferiu palestras em eventos do The Open Group sobre arquitetura corporativa e cloud computing na Europa (Londres/2011), Estados Unidos (San Francisco/2012) e em vários outros eventos de renome no Brasil. É fundador e presidente da "a|EA Brazil Chapter" desde a sua fundação em 2010. Hoje trabalho para uma operadora de telefonia móvel, na unidade de Cloud Development.

TOGAF® Version 9.1

Enterprise Edition

 TOGAF®, an Open Group Standard, is a proven enterprise architecture methodology and framework used by the world's leading organizations to improve business efficiency. It is the most prominent and reliable enterprise architecture standard, ensuring consistent standards, methods, and communication among enterprise architecture professionals. Enterprise architecture professionals fluent in TOGAF standards enjoy greater industry credibility, job effectiveness, and career opportunities. TOGAF helps practitioners avoid being locked into proprietary methods, utilize resources more efficiently and effectively, and realize a greater return on investment.

First developed in 1995, TOGAF was based on the US Department of Defense Technical Architecture Framework for Information Management (TAFIM). From this sound foundation, The Open Group Architecture Forum has developed successive versions of TOGAF at regular intervals and published them on The Open Group public web site.

TOGAF Version 9.1 is a maintenance update to TOGAF 9, addressing comments raised since the introduction of TOGAF 9 in 2009. It retains the major features and structure of TOGAF 9, thereby preserving existing investment in TOGAF, and adds further detail and clarification to what is already proven.

The standard is divided into seven parts:

• PART I (Introduction): This part provides a high-level introduction to the key concepts of enterprise architecture and in particular the TOGAF approach. It contains the definitions of terms used throughout TOGAF and release notes detailing the changes between this version and the previous version of TOGAF.
• PART II (Architecture Development Method): This is the core of TOGAF. It describes the TOGAF Architecture Development Method (ADM) - a step-by-step approach to developing an enterprise architecture.
• PART III (ADM Guidelines & Techniques): This part contains a collection of guidelines and techniques available for use in applying TOGAF and the TOGAF ADM.
• PART IV (Architecture Content Framework): This part describes the TOGAF content framework, including a structured metamodel for architectural artifacts, the use of re-usable architecture building blocks, and an overview of typical architecture deliverables.
• PART V (Enterprise Continuum & Tools): This part discusses appropriate taxonomies and tools to categorize and store the outputs of architecture activity within an enterprise.
• PART VI (TOGAF Reference Models): This part provides a selection of architectural reference models, which includes the TOGAF Foundation Architecture, and the Integrated Information Infrastructure Reference Model (III-RM).
• PART VII (Architecture Capability Framework): This part discusses the organization, processes, skills, roles, and responsibilities required to establish and operate an architecture function within an enterprise.
