The Department of Defense (DoD) has determined that two objectives regarding
Internet Protocol (IP) Version 6 (IPv6) shall be met in FY 2008, further expansion of
IPv6 transition efforts and that all products purchased in support of DoD networks be
IPv6 capable. The Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) under the direction of
Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), National Information Infrastructure (NII), and
the DoD IPv6 Transition Office (DITO) will utilize the DoD IPv6 Generic Test Plan (GTP)
to assess the IPv6 capabilities of both commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and government
off-the-shelf (GOTS) products used by the DoD. Once a network device has been
certified by the JITC as IPv6 capable, the device will be placed on the JITC IPv6
Approved Product List (APL).
The DoD IPv6 Standard Profiles for IPv6 Capable Products Version 2.0 15 June
2007, is the source requirements document for the DoD IPv6 GTP. Only the “MUST”
RFC Requirements from the DoD IPv6 Standard Profiles for IPv6 Capable Products
document are tested. However, vendors may request additional testing for emerging or
optional RFCs based on their device’s capabilities. The DoD IPv6 GTP contains a
complete list of product class requirements as well as other RFC Requirements
considered emerging or optional for the DoD IPv6 APL test process.
