GES Forum Members Meeting
Dublin: Thursday April 28, 2005
Jurys Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin, Ireland

Desired Outcome
Interoperability between IPv6 capable devices is one of, if not, the highest priority requirements for defense systems, yet until now vendors have been reluctant to establish an effective standard because of uncertainty over the priorities of customers. The Open Group members, which comprise of vendors, integrators and end user organizations is addressing this challenge in a specific workgroup - The Open Group GES (Global Information Grid Enterprise Services) Forum - in association with IPv6 Forum, the North American IPv6 Task Force and the IPv6 Transition Offices of the service branches of the US DoD. The goal is to produce an industry based IPv6 capable product standard and certification program by first quarter of 2006. Attendees at the Dublin Meeting of The Open Group GES Forum will learn of the current initiatives. Since this is at a very early stage, participants will have the opportunity to input their own requirements and provide valuable feedback in shaping the development of this product standard.

Topics for discussion

    1. Current status of proposed "IPv6 capable" industry based product standard initiative
    2. IPv6 certification initiative
      a. What it is
      b. Why it is of value
      c. How to be involved in shaping requirements
    3. Current US Navy and Air Force position on IPv6 deployment, requirements and status.
