Grid Enterprise Services Forum

July 19-22, 2005

The Westin New York at Times Square, New York, NY

Agenda

Interoperability between IPv6 capable devices is one of, if not, the highest priority requirements for defense systems, yet until now vendors have been reluctant to establish an effective standard because of uncertainty over the priorities of customers. In association with IPv6 Forum, the North American IPv6 Task Force and the IPv6 Transition Offices of the US service branches, The Open Group membership, which comprise of vendors, integrators and end user organizations, is addressing this challenge in it's GridES Forum (Grid Enterprise Services). The goal is to produce an industry based IPv6 capable product standard and certification program by first quarter of 2006.

(Open Session) Review of Current Status an Overview of Enterprise Services
Tuesday, July 19: 1400-1730
This session is intended to be a review of current status and overview of Enterprise Services. Areas to be addressed are Core Services, Mediation, Security,  IPv6, etc. and other layered services necessary on the enterprise. There will be a round table discussion on Core Services approaches (identify road blocks, definition of problems, future directions).
(Open Session) IPv6 Business Scenario Workshop
Wednesday, July 20: 0900-1730

We intend to hold a mini business scenario workshop. The need for this exercise became apparent in a recent joint meeting between The Open Group and the IPv6 transition offices of the US Army, Navy and Air Force. There were two concerns that were expressed at this meeting. The first was the lack of a definition of "scope and bounds" for an initial deployment of IPv6 to meet their 2008 mandate. The other was the need to have an indicator that could be referenced that clearly articulated that an item being considered for procurement could provide reasonable assurance that would meet current and projected requirements.

What we intend to achieve from this exercise is to uncover what the current and critical issues are for a successful deployment of IPv6 and from this effort what may constitute a suitable "scope and bounds" for an initial IPv6 product standard and certification program. A brief report reviewing the results of the effort will be held on Friday July 22.

In addition to representatives from the IPv6 Transition Offices of the US Army, Navy and Air Force and industry members, this workshop will be of particular benefit to other government agencies given the recommendations of the recent GAO report to congress on IPv6. (highlights of GAO report and GAO full report) The following is a link on Business Scenarios at The Open Group: http://www.opengroup.org/consortia_services/strategy.htm.

(Open Session) Review of Proposed IPv6 Product Standard
Thursday, July 21: 0900-1730
We have been working with the IPv6 Transition Offices on the release of the work done so far on the development of a proposed IPv6 product standard. This proposed product standard will be posted on our web site for public review and comment prior to the conference. This will occur the week before the conference. This session will review the results of the comment period. The importance of this work is that it will provide a bases of an initial industry based IPv6 product standard. The IPv6 Business Scenario session, held on Wednesday, will help define what is a suitable "scope and bounds" for an initial product standard and certification program. Our current intended goal is to have a certification program online first quarter of 2006.
