Review of draft IPv6 Product Standard and proposed “branding program”
Hilton Crystal City, Washington DC, USA
To be held in parallel with The Open Group Members Meeting
April 24-26, 2006
Agenda
The Open Group recently released an initial draft of an IPv6 Product Standard for informal review. A Product Standard is a precisely defined and documented set of functionality to which products can be "branded" as having met an industry set of standards. It provides a mapping between the "branding" process, the specifications, and the test procedures needed to demonstrate conformance. An industry adopted product standard best represents current consensus in the industry on how those standards are collectively interpreted and verified and is intended to provide practical guidance on procurement of conformant products.
While this initial draft of the product standard does not currently meet all of the stated criteria for a product standard, this informal review is the first steps in developing consensus on a mature document. The draft document reflects what is believed to be, and limited to, industry consensus as currently implemented in deployed IPv6 products.
As part of the Grid Enterprise Forum, the Open Group will conduct a meeting reviewing the results of the informal review of the draft product standard as well as a discussion and proposals related to the production of an industry-based IPv6 product standard and "branding" program. This meeting will occur as part of the Open Groups members meeting to be held in Washington DC April 27.
Access to the draft IPv6 Product Standard can be found at: http://www.opengroup.org/projects/ipv6_review/
Registration information can be found at: http://www.opengroup.org/washington2006/ . Note that this meeting will be a full day in length and will be held in parallel with The Open Group Members Meeting.
