Interconnect Software Consorium Socket API Extensions Working Group. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting: Tuesday 6th August 2002 20:00GMT (21:00BST, 04:00p EDT, 03:00p CDT, 01:00p PDT, 22:00CEST, 05:00JST+) Toll Free (US & Canada): 1 877 214 5010 International: +1 (504) 588 9772 Code: 769497 -------------------------------- Attendees: David Edmondson, Sun Jeremy Harris, Sun Vish Subramanian, HP Jeff Messing, IBM Louis Laborde, HP Apologies: Juliana Hsu, IBM -------------------------------- Agenda: 1. Agenda bashing. None. 2. Review action items. dme falls at the first. 3. Approve Last Minutes. Approved. 4. Open issues on requirements voting. A6.2: HP modified vote to N, hence the result is N. A6.3: Sun modified vote to N, hence the result is N. A discussion about the behaviour of the various cancel operations ensued: * a cancel operation will fail only if it is the act of cancelling that has failed (resource starvation, etc), rather than if any of the individual cancellation operations would fail (due to early completion). * Louis pointed out that there are TOE implementations that don't permit buffers posted for receive to be recovered (i.e. cancelled). In this case, cancelled operations will not complete until the buffer is used or the socket is closed. * A discussion about the semantics of "cancel all outstanding requests on an fd" led to the conclusion that there is not clear understanding about the results of the vote in sections C3.1 and C7. dme to write up a statement of the current position for confirmation by the group. ACTION: dme: write up a clarification of the result of the vote means. A9.6.3.1: is a 2, on the basis that A9 is a 2. A19.1: IBM votes N, hence the result is N. M5.2: Fujitsu clarification resulted in a vote of 1, hence the result is 1. O1.11: IBM votes 1, hence the result is 1. 02: Discussion about using the event queues to implement the same functionality. Jeff offered to write a sketch of the O2 API in otrder that the group can contrast it with using event queues. ACTION: Jeff: write a sketch of the O2 API. 5. Louis' API strawman proposal. No time ! 6. AOB dme on holiday from 2002-08-12 through 2002-08-30. Near term schedule: Thursday meeting (2002-08-08): discuss the API proposal. Tuesday meeting (2002-08-13): discuss the API proposal. -------------------------------- Outstanding Actions: 2002-04-18/02 dme. Draft a paper describing why a unified socket/file IO API would be useful. 2002-08-06/01 dme. Produce a clarification on the results of the C3.1 and C7 vote. 2002-08-06/02 Jeff. Write a sketch of the O2 API. -------------------------------- Next Meeting: Thursday 8th August 2002 20:00GMT (21:00BST, 04:00p EDT, 03:00p CDT, 01:00p PDT, 22:00CEST, 05:00JST+) Toll Free (US & Canada): 1-888-742-8686 International: +1-303-928-2600 Conference ID: 3378790 Alternate teleconference numbers: Toll Free (US & Canada): 1 877 214 5010 International: +1 (504) 588 9772 Code: 769497 -------------------------------- Contact Details: email: icsc-socketwg@opengroup.org web: http://www.opengroup.org/icsc/sockets/protected
