Interconnect Software Consorium Socket API Extensions Working Group. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting: Thursday 27th June 2002 20:00GMT (21:00BST, 04:00p EDT, 03:00p CDT, 01:00p PDT, 22:00CEST, 05:00JST+) Toll Free (US & Canada): 1-888-742-8686 International: +1-303-928-2600 Conference ID: 3378790 Alternate teleconference numbers: Toll Free (US & Canada): 1 877 214 5010 International: +1 (504) 588 9772 Code: 769497 -------------------------------- Attendees: (thanks Jeremy) Jeremy Harris, Sun Vish Subramanian, HP Jeff Messing, IBM Juliana Hsu, IBM John Kasperski, IBM Louis Laborde, HP Masanori Itoh, Fujitsu David Edmondson, Sun Satya Sharma, IBM -------------------------------- Agenda: 1. Agenda bashing. See below. 2. Review action items. dme fails on the first. 3. fork(). The two tables sent out were discussed. The first table was considered inadequate, as there were many other options and approaches not indicated. The second table covers the key issues which need determining in the requirements phase. Action: dme to add text to the requirements allowing the group to vote between the high-level distinctions in table 2. The group agreed to leave the detailed decisions (for example, which sub-option of options 2 and 3 from Vish's document) to later. 4. Approve the requirements document for working group voting. Action: dme to add a section on the improved poll() interface. With the exception of fork() and poll(), the group agreed that the document was ready for voting. Action: dme to prepare the voting paperwork and send out. 5. Discuss the input from ITWG on event queues, etc. Action: Vish to prepare a draft response to the ITWG points. It was noted that many of the ITWG concerns surround items which are still votable in the SWG requirements document. Louis pointed out that callbacks is one key area where the two groups differ. Jeremy had previously asked the group if there was interest in an upcall mechanism, but no-one responded. The group agreed to leave upcalls out of the document. 6. Formulate a response to the ITWG, including the need for a joint meeting to discuss the issues. See above. 7. How will we produce the API. Louis will send out a strawman proposal based on some work that he has been doing. -------------------------------- Outstanding Actions: 2002-04-18/02 dme. Draft a paper describing why a unified socket/file IO API would be useful. -------------------------------- Next Meeting: Tuesday 9th July 2002 20:00GMT (21:00BST, 04:00p EDT, 03:00p CDT, 01:00p PDT, 22:00CEST, 05:00JST+) Toll Free (US & Canada): 1 877 214 5010 International: +1 (504) 588 9772 Code: 769497 -------------------------------- Contact Details: email: icsc-socketwg@opengroup.org web: http://www.opengroup.org/icsc/member/sockets/
