Architecture Forum

Objective of Meeting

The aim of the meeting was progression of the work of the Architecture Forum.

The Open Group Architecture Forum meeting held in London consisted of a face-to-face meeting on October 23, 2014. There were 16 voting members present. Earlier in the week, a number of projects and Standing Committees also met. (Minutes from those meetings are available in the Architecture Forum member’s site under the Meeting Minutes category.)

Mike Lambert was appointed as the meeting Chair standing in for Dave Hornford. Sonia Gonzalez was welcomed as the new Architecture Forum Director. Attendees were reminded that the Forum elections are coming up soon, and that the current Chair has announced he will not be standing once his term ends.

Mike Lambert presented the Forum Strategy update prepared by Dave Hornford. This shows the areas of activity, together with trend indicators – there is good focus on development of the next version of the TOGAF standard, and there is increasing interaction with other Forums.

The status of ongoing Forum activities was reviewed using the project scorecard.

Harry Hendrickx briefed the Forum on an initiative that a group of Platinum members would be presenting to the Governing Board related to development of a Business Architecture methodology.

The publication proposal for the next edition of the TOGAF standard was considered and a decision agreed to move forward. An updated draft will be the subject of a Forum review during the next quarter with change requests in a number of categories in scope for the review.

A working meeting will be scheduled for San Diego in order to assess the material that would come from the change request process.

Every project presented its status. The details can be found in the meeting minutes available here (for members only).

This summary, the Action Items, Consent Items, Issues List, and the detailed minutes available to members are the outputs of the meeting (available to members only here). Other materials from the meetings are in the London 2014 area of the Architecture Forum members' site (available to members only here).

Next Steps

A two-week consensus check on the decisions made will occur after the meeting. The Forum is scheduled to next meet in San Diego during the week commencing February 2, 2015. Logistics for the meeting will be available in the Architecture Forum calendar.
