You are here: Forums > Enterprise Management Forum > How we workHow we workThe Enterprise Management Forum consists of members drawn from organizations across the whole range of the IT industry, including both suppliers and consumers of management technology. Within the EMF, these disparate interests come together to identify requirements and develop open solutions. The Forum consists of a series of Project Teams, each working on a specific technical area. Project Teams meet as required, either physically or electronically, in order to progress their work. The EMF as a whole meets every 3 months at the regular meetings of The Open Group, with a 2 or 3 day plenary session at which a wide range of topics are addressed, including general topics in the field of enterprise management. The major outputs of our projects are Technical Specifications, Reference Technology, Test Suites, and Certification Programs. Wherever possible we aim to make open source implementations of our specifications available, as experience shows that this is the most effective way to achieve widespread adoption. Testing and certification exists to provide the assurances to users that certified commercial products are true implementations of the specifications and that they will function correctly and where appropriate inter-operate with other certified products. We operate a consensus process, during which we make our work in progress available for public review, with our members having voting rights on the final approval of our work. There are are several different levels of membership, with different rights and privileges, some of which relate to other activities of The Open Group. For more information on membership in the EMF, look here.
