S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED
When this logo is used on, or in relation to, a product registered as
conformant to this Product Standard, it must be accompanied by an attribution,
in the form defined in the S/MIME Secure Messaging Certification Agreement,
which includes the S/MIME Secure Messaging
CERTIFIED Product Standard name.
 DESCRIPTION
The S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED Product Standard defines the core requirements for
knowledge, understanding and awareness of The Open Group S/MIME Secure Messaging
Architecture that messaging professionals should have in order to be able to
design, deploy and configure secure e-mail systems in conformance to the
architecture. It is the foundation Product Standard for other S/MIME Secure
Messaging Product Standards and is required for messaging professionals
delivering certified S/MIME Secure Messaging
TRAINING courses and certified S/MIME Secure Messaging professional services.
There are two different modes of operation:
Individual Application
The individual candidate applies directly to The Open Group.
The Open Group issues the examination paper to the candidate who
must return the completed paper within 60 days.
The Open Group assesses the returned examination paper and if the
candidates answers do not demonstrate a satisfactory knowledge of the core
syllabus, provides detailed feedback to the candidate who has one
opportunity to rework and resubmit the completed paper.
Group Application
A designated examiner, who must be S/MIME Secure Messaging SERVICES, certified applies to
The Open Group for a batch of examination papers
The designated examiner issues papers to individual candidates and
assesses completed papers.
The designated examiner must deliver a list of names of individuals
whose completed examination papers demonstrate a satisfactory knowledge of
the core syallabus
A provider of certified S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING is a designated examiner and must
offer candidates who complete a course the opportunity to complete the
examination for S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED..
 CONFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Each individual candidate for certification must have demonstrated
satisfactory knowledge of the core syllabus through completion of an
un-timed open-book examination paper to the satisfaction of The Open Group
or designated examiner within 60 days of issue of the examination paper or
completion of the associated S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING course, whichever is the later.
 OPERATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

 PORTABILITY ENVIRONMENT
Not applicable.
 OVERRIDING STANDARDS
There are no overriding standards for this Product Standard
 INDICATORS OF COMPLIANCE
The Indicators of Compliance for this Product Standard shall be: - In the case of an individual application
- Completed examination paper demonstrating satisfactory knowledge of the core syllabus
- In the case of a group application
- Confirmation from the designated examiner that each candidate has submitted an examination paper that demonstrates satisfactory knowledge of the core syllabus
- Submission of an S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED Conformance Statement for each
individual applicant indicating how their knowledge maps to the optional
requirements of the core syllabus.
 MIGRATION
As this is the first version of this Product Standard, there are no migration
issues.
