S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING

S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING

When this logo is used on, or in relation to, a product registered as conformant to this Product Standard, it must be accompanied by an attribution, in the form defined in the S/MIME Secure Messaging Certification Agreement, which includes the S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING Product Standard name.

DESCRIPTION

The S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING Product Standard defines core requirements for training courses that enable secure messaging professionals to acquire the necessary knowledge and awareness of The Open Group S/MIME Secure Messaging Architecture, to be able to install and configure secure e-mail systems that conform to it. Individuals who successfully complete a training course that is a S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING certified product will cover the complete syllabus upon which examination for S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED is based.

CONFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING certified product (hereafter referred to simply as the ‘‘course’’) may be a single course, or a defined configuration of courses from a single family of related courseware. A course may be delivered by live instructor(s) and/or by remote learning.

A conforming course shall enable its defined target audience to acquire the necessary knowledge and awareness of the following as detailed in the S/MIME Secure Messaging Core Syllabus ::

  • Basics of cryptography
  • Rationale for secure e-mail
  • Organizational requirements for secure e-mail
  • Models of secure e-mail, including to-end desktop, to-site gateway
  • Components of a PKI
  • Usage of PKI

A conforming course shall offer all individuals who have completed the course the opportunity to complete an examination to demonstrate suitability for certification to the S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED Product Standard.

A conforming course may optionally include:

  • Additional models of secure e-mail
  • Integration of virus protection
  • Mail filtering to eliminate unsolicited e-mail/unacceptable content
  • Configuration of specific e-mail product(s) for security
  • Hands-on experience of product configuration

In the case of a course delivered by one or more live instructors, all instructors must be listed on the Certification Register as S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED.

In order for an Applicant to submit a course for certification to the S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING Product Standard, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Commit to register each instance of an S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING  certified course with The Open Group, together with the names of individuals who have indicate they wish to be examined for certification to the S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED Product Standard, within 30 days of the completion of the course. [In order for examination papers to be available before the start of the course, course registration must be done at least 10 working days prior to the start of the course]. 

  • Commit to assess examination scripts completed by individuals and submit to The Open Group, for certification to the S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED Product Standard, the names of individuals whose examination scripts demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of the core syllabus.

OVERRIDING STANDARDS

There are no overriding standards for this Product Standard

INDICATORS OF COMPLIANCE

The Indicators of Compliance for this Product Standard shall be:

  • Completion of the S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING Conformance Statement, which shows how the actual syllabus of the course(s) comprising the product being submitted for registration to the S/MIME Secure Messaging TRAINING Product Standard map to the conformance requirements listed above.

  • In the case of training delivered by live instructor(s), a commitment that, when a presentation of a course is to be used as a basis for training candidates for examination for the S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED Product Standard, only identified S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED instructors will be used and their names be declared with the registration of individuals for the S/MIME Secure Messaging CERTIFIED Product Standard.

MIGRATION

As this is the first version of this Product Standard, there are no migration issues.
