DESCRIPTION
This Conformance Requirements Document is for:
- Instant ticket bar code designs that conform to the Technical
Standard for Bar Codes for Instant Tickets in the Lottery Industry
- Gaming systems or gaming system components that make use of
such bar codes
The applicability of the Conformance Requirements extends to the
following technology types:
- Ticket Bar Code Design
- Bar Code Reader
- Terminal Software
- Bar Code Terminal
- Server Side Software Application
- Integrated Gaming System
The following definitions are used in this
document:
- Bar Code: One or more of the following, as defined in the
applicable Technical Standard (see Conformance Requirements below):
- Universal Product Code (U.P.C.) Bar Code
- Lottery-Specific Bar Code
- Integrated U.P.C. and Lottery-Specific Bar Code
- Ticket Bar Code Design: This technology type comprises (1)
the bar code content and (2) the physical printed bar code.
- Bar Code Reader: This technology type is an optical device
for scanning a printed bar code that, with the aid of an internal
or external driver, provides data that can be processed by Terminal
Software or a Server-Side Software Application.
- Terminal Software: This technology type interprets data
from a Bar Code Reader and processes that data for
application-specific purposes.
- Bar Code Terminal: This technology type combines a Bar
Code Reader and Terminal Software in a single physical unit.
- Server-Side Software Application: This technology type
accepts bar code data as input and processes that data for
application-specific purposes.
- Integrated Gaming System: This technology type comprises
an integrated collection of components that may include instances
of the other technology types.
- Bar Code Validation Data: Generated instances of
conformant bar codes created for the express purpose of validating
a Bar Code Technology.
- Bar Code Validation Report: Validation results that are
reported in a prescribed format used by the NSI Bar Code Technology

clauses, as defined in the relevant section of the Technical
Standard (see above), or else provide a rationale in the
Conformance Statement for why the recommendation is not followed
- Demonstrate that it implements all the optional "May" clauses, as
defined in the relevant section of the Technical Standard (see
above), for which support is indicated in the Conformance Statement
OVERRIDING STANDARDS
None.
INDICATORS OF CONFORMANCE
For a Bar Code Technology, the Indicators of Conformance are:
- A Conformance Statement that shows how the technology meets the
Conformance Requirements defined above.
- A Validation Report documenting the results of performing
validation with Validation Data in accordance with a currently
authorized release of the NSI Bar Code Validation Specification.
