Jim Hietala, VP, Security, The Open Group

In the fall of 2014, the Open Group Security Forum and the Society of Information Risk Analysts conducted a global survey of risk professionals, aiming to understand current practices and challenges in risk management.

This presentation will describe the findings from the survey, and will highlight areas where better guidance and best practices are needed in the area of risk management.

Jim D. Hietala, CISSP, GIAC GSEC, and Open FAIR, is VP, Security and Healthcare for The Open Group, where he heads up security standards activities. He has also been responsible for developing and launching a new Healthcare Forum at The Open Group. During his tenure at The Open Group, a major IT industry standards group, he has led the development of numerous IT security and risk industry standards and best practices, including most recently the Open FAIR Risk Analysis and Risk Taxonomy standards and the Open FAIR certification program for risk analysts.

Jim was previously a principal with Compliance Research Group, a risk and compliance consulting organization, and he has an active participant in the SANS Analyst/Expert program. A frequent speaker at IT industry conferences, he has also published numerous articles on information security, risk, and compliance topics in publications including the ISSA Journal, Risk Factor, Bank Accounting & Finance, SC Magazine, and Cutter IT Journal. A security industry veteran, he has held leadership roles at a number of security technology companies. He holds a B.S. in Marketing from Southern Illinois University.
