for 78% of the operating revenues.
SINTEF Informatics constitutes a division within
the Information Technology area in SINTEF. The division
has 70 employees, mainly with background from computer
science and industrial mathematics. The close
collaboration with the University of Oslo (UiO) and the
Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) ensures a stable
development of base technology and knowledge. Basic
knowledge within areas such as integration technology,
object-oriented technology, geometric modelling and
process simulation form a broad basis for project work
for industry and the public sector. Some application
areas which are covered are mechanical industry (CAD and
process simulation), CAD-systems, materials technology,
geographical information systems (GIS), medicine, oil and
gas exploration and production, planning, business
information systems, computer supported co-operative work
and standardisation.
SINTEF Informatics has a long
experience in participating in EU projects, starting with
the first framework programme. SINTEF Informatics has for
several years been working in the areas of systems
integration and interoperability. The OBOE project is
hence a very interesting project for SINTEF, right in the
middle of our field of competence and interests. The work
in OBOE is undertaken by the systems integration group at
SINTEF Telecom and Informaties - Distributed Information
Systems. This group consists of 10 persons, and has a
long history in the area of systems integration and
interoperability. Appendix B shows some of our
publications in that area.
