Issue 2.0, March 24 2006

This document is a guide for Certification Board Members on how to navigate within The Open Group Certified Architect (Open CA) Program web system for the purpose of obtaining a Candidate's Certification Package and inputting the evaluation of a Candidate.

3. Registration

3.1 Accessing the Web Certification System

The Certification Authority provides a web system through which Board Members obtain a Candidate Certification Package and input the Evaluation feedback for a Candidate. This is a workflow system that will guide you through the necessary steps for performing an Evaluation of a Candidate. The entry point to the system is at https://www.opengroup.org/openca/cert/ (this is a secure server).

3.2 Prerequisites

Prerequisites

Prior to being a member of a Certification Board a number of steps need to have been completed:

  1. You will need to have submitted a signed Certification Board Member Agreement. This is obtained from The Open Group.
  2. You will need to have been assigned by the Certification Authority to a Certification Board. When this is done you will be notifed by the Certification Authority at least 28 days in advance of the Certification Board meeting date.

To log into the web system you need a valid username and password on the Certification Authority's web server.

If you don't yet have an account, this account will be created by The Open Group when they assigned you to a Certification Board.

Once you have your username, from the secure web site, select "Login".

3.3 Accessing Certification Board Member Information

When you have been accepted as a Board Member and assigned to a Board an additional pane appears on your login page as below:

Certification Boards You are a Certification Board member

3.4.1 Using the Board Member Evaluation Form Editor

The evaluation application enables you to create or modify a Candidate Evaluation form. You may edit your evaluation form in one sitting or start work on it, save your work, and come back at a later time to continue making edits. You may continue to modify your evaluation form up until the time you formally submit it to the Certification Board Chair (using the "Submit" button within the editor). Submission is required in order for the Certification Board Chair to receive the data in the Candidate Review resolution application, and ultimately enable the candidate to progress to the next steps in the certification process.

The following describes the various buttons within the Evaluation Form editor.

  • Save

This enables you to save the values that you have entered during this editing session, or since your last save. Save may be used at any time. At the time your form is saved, any fields that have been completed will be validated for correctness and you will receive a message at the top of the page indicating whether there are any problems with the edits performed to date. The form will be saved even if there are problems. You will be required to fix them prior to submitting your evaluation form. After performing Save, you remain in the input/editing mode.

  • Reload

This enables you to reload the values from your last Save.

  • Clear

This will clear all values and enable you to start editing your form again from scratch. Note that this will clear any previously saved values.

  • Check

This enables you to validate your recent edits, but does not save them.

  • Submit

Once you have completed your form, this will enable you to submit it at which point it becomes locked within the system. Once all three forms have been submitted the Certification Board Chair is able then to invoke an application that gives a common view of all three evaluation forms. If you decide later that you need to revise an evaluation form the Certification Board Chair has the ability to unlock an evaluation form.

  • Return

This returns you to the place in the web certification system that you were at prior to entering the editor.

3.5 Using the Board Review Chair Caucus Application

When all three evaluation forms have been the submitted the Board Review Chair has an additional button linked on the Candidate page which allows invocation of a Board Caucus application that allows a single view on the three evaluation forms together with the ability to input an agreed consensus position on each part of the evaluation.

If during the Caucus, a Board Member decides they would like to revise the evaluation form they have submitted, the Chair has the ability from the Candidate page to unlock a Board Member evaluation form. At that point the Board Member whose form was unlocked will need to make the update and then Submit again before the caucus application is re-enabled.
