Sponsoring Forum: Security Forum

In July 2002, the Security Forum initiated a project to explore in a structured manner the whole subject of Access Control, using an approach based on use-case scenarios.

The initial goal is to identify potential work items contributing to open systems access control solutions that our members would be interested in considering either taking up as work projects or encouraging development elsewhere of open systems access control solutions.

In view of the close relationship between Access Control and Identity Management, the Directory Interoperability Forum (DIF), the Messaging Forum, and the Mobile Management Forum (MMF) are also interested in the outcome of this initial exploration.

The project started with a Workshop held during The Open Group meeting in July 2002, which provided initial input to the task of writing a White Paper to identify the key issues, the scope, the positioning of Access Control in the overall context of data management, and the requirements. This document will be used to review the solution space and assess what requirements remain unaddressed.
