Can we develop a global framework for identity management in which the communities that an individual belongs to can operate - and cooperate - effectively, while maintaining theright of the individual to privacy, to dignity, and to be in control of their destiny?

The Open Group, in co-operation with other bodies, is aiming to define a global identity management framework. We are analysing the requirements. We will encourage the appropriate standards organizations to produce the standards that are needed. And we will help the industry to develop interoperable products to meet those standards. Our statement of the requirements for Identity Management is contained in our Identity Management Business Scenario . Our Roadmap White Paper explores key concepts of identity management, places these concepts within their business, personal, and technical perspectives, and proposes a set of steps to be taken by The Open Group which will contribute towards achieving our goals. Good Identity Management enables the right information to reach the right people. It is essential for Boundaryless Information Flow.
