Security Guides for Business Managers

The concept of guides on information security topics was piloted by our Managers Guide to Information Security - MGIS is a plain, jargon-free guide to the use of information security technology in business environments. It is aimed at business decision-makers and others who are not security experts, but who need to know sufficient to be able to ask informed questions and make informed decisions on the security products they are encouraged to buy and use.

We followed the MGIS with a Guide to Data Privacy, and a Guide to Digital Rights Management. We added a Guide to Security Design Patterns - as a basic introductory guide to what desgn patterns are, and a primer for our Technical Guide to Security Design Patterns. And in 2007 we published a Guide to Control of Electronic Chattel Paper, in a collaborative project with the American Bar Association Cyberlaw Committee on how legal chattel paper can be securely controlled in digital form (pursuant to UCC Section 9-105).

We are open to proposals to develop further Guides that put information systems issues into a business perspective that helps managers to make informed decisions on IT issues without having to acquire technological expertise in how to do information security.

You need to log in as a member to see the project design documents etc. that were created during development of these Guides. Contact Ian Dobson for details.
