This is the home page for supporting activities to develop, maintain and evolve the strategy for the Open Group's security program.

Objectives

The Open Group members and staff are taking a fresh look at our strategy for security programs and activities, aimed at developing a sound strategy document setting the directions for how we will add value to securing IT operations in future. We recognize that the Jericho Forum has a separate management structure, but we want to include the expertise that exists within that Forum to help guide future Open Group security activities.

Activity

This will be an ongoing and carefully structured review process over a period extending into 2010. It was launched in June 2009 with a 10-question members survey, and a face-to-face meeting at our July 2009 Toronto meeting. This page will gather the outcomes from that Toronto meeting, and subsequent preliminary analysis of survey responses.

Background

Information Security has become a critical area for everyone in the IT industry, from vendors to IT-dependent business customers large and small, and personal end-users. Now is an appropriate time to take a fresh look at where and how we feel best able to add value the information security community, so as to develop a sound strategy enabling us to be an effective force for improving information security.

Get Involved 

We strongly encourage each member organization with an interest in security to participate in this activity, and to involve others in their organization who can contribute to developing a sound security strategy. In particular we welcome input from those with senior responsibility for security in IT-dependent businesses, and security product strategy staff in vendor organizations.

To get involved in this activity, please open the survey document in the Recent Documents section below, complete your responses, and e-mail the completed survey back to j.hietala@opengroup.org. The survey consists of just 10 open-ended questions, which we reckon can be completed in 10-20 minutes, depending on how many ideas you wish to contribute. We already have good number of responses, and did review them in out July 2009 Toronto meeting, but as part of an ongoing and carefully structured review process we will welcome adding yours as soon as you have it done.
