The Open Group SOA Reference Architecture was input to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC38 (DAPS) and to IEEE project P1723, both of which bodies were developing SOA reference architectures, for their consideration. The project liaised with these bodies, and sought to achieve consensus with them on a SOA Reference Architecture based on the Open Group SOA Reference Architecture.

Following publication of ISO/IEC 18384:2016 Information technology — Reference Architecture for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA RA), and its addition to the Open Group Standards Information Base, the project team decided that publication of a new version of The Open Group SOA Reference Architecture was not needed, and the work of this project was complete.
