Title: Semantic Interoperability and the UDEF at The Open Group's Washington Conference
Description:

The Open Group Conference Architecting to the Edge in Washington, DC in the week of 24 April 2006 included:

  • A joint meeting with the Semantic Interoperability Community of Practice (SICoP) and the Federal Metadata Managers Consortium (FMMC) - Convergence of Semantic Naming & Identification Technologies? This meeting looked at semantic naming and identification standards such as ISO 11179, the Semantic Web, RFID, and IPv6; reviewed example use cases; and addressed the question of whether convergence of these semantic naming and identification standards and technologies is possible or practical.
  • A tutorial on the Semantic Web by Professor Ken Baclawski of Northeastern University, that gave participants an understanding of the Semantic Web sufficient for them to be able to make decisions about whether and how to use it, and included an overview of Bayesian Web, a concept developed by Professor Baclawski for combining logic and probability.
  • A UDEF Forum meeting that consolidated and developed the strategy for taking the Universal Data Element Framework (UDEF) forward.
