At The Open Group Conference in Lisbon in the week of 23 October 2006, the Governing Board of The Open Group approved publication of Version 1 of the UDEF.

The conference featured several presentations on the UDEF in its Semantic Interoperability stream and elsewhere, and included a UDEF Interested Parties meeting to enable participants to find out about the UDEF in depth.
