Key steps in this phase include:

  1. Representing the baseline using the TOGAF Foundation Architecture to give a common starting point
  2. Considering a number of architectural viewpoints to ensure that all stakeholder concerns in the required system are considered
  3. Selecting a high-level model for the architecture
  4. Establishing a set of criteria for service selection
  5. Selecting the services required
  6. Validating that business goals are met
  7. Defining the architecture in detail; and
  8. Conducting a gap analysis to identify any missing functionality.
