CloudCamp

Objective of Meeting

CloudCamp is an "unconference" where early adopters of Cloud Computing technologies exchange ideas. It is run by CloudCamp.org. Over 60 CloudCamps have been held to date, in locations all over the world, and a further 20 are scheduled over the next three months alone.

This CloudCamp was run by CloudCamp.org as a separate event from The Open Group conference, but co-located with it, and was attended by many of the conference delegates plus many more from the local area.

Summary

A period of networking (with refreshments) was followed by a welcome from Dave Nielsen of CloudCamp, who was the meeting host and facilitator. There were then seven "lightning talks" (5 minutes each), and a short "unpanel". This led to the identification of 11 topics that the participants wished to discuss. Groups were formed ad hoc and met to address the topics in two sets of parallel sessions. Finally, Dave conducted a wrap-up, and the meeting adjourned to a sports bar for more refreshments, provided by one of the sponsors.

The lightning talks were given by:

  • Ali Arsanjani of The Open Group Cloud Work Group
  • Johnny Hatch of ReliaCloud
  • Mithun Dhar of Microsoft Azure
  • Steve Riley of Amazon Web Services
  • Sara Cowles of enStratus
  • Eugene Osovetsky of Web Servius
  • Cory Von Wallenstein of Dyn

The 11 Cloud discussion topics were:

  • Private to public
  • Advice for newbies
  • Impact of mobile devices
  • Trust, encryption, and key infrastructure
  • Security
  • Big data
  • Design patterns
  • MS Azure
  • Core components and APIs
  • Operation
  • Regulation

The wrap-up included summaries of these discussions and thanks to the organizers and sponsors.

Outputs

No formal outputs were produced; the value of the meeting came from participation.

Next Steps
