SOA Work Group

Objective of Meeting

The aim of the meeting was to progress the work of the Practical Guide, Reference Architecture, and Ontology SOA Work Group projects.

Summary

The discussions proceeded in two parallel streams over Friday 29 through Sunday 31 January:

The definitions for a core SOA ontology were agreed, and plans were made to develop a Technical Standard incorporating them. It was agreed that additional modules, in the form of small ontologies providing connections to other areas, such as Enterprise Architecture and BPMN, could be developed, and should take the form of public web files rather than full Technical Standards.

Substantial progress was made on the SOA/TOGAF Practical Guide, and on the SOA Reference Architecture.

Outputs

The meeting developed a set of UML diagrams for the ontology, and presentations covering key areas of the Practical Guide and the Reference Architecture. These are available to Work Group members only.

Next Steps

A new Company Review draft of the ontology will be developed as agreed during the meeting.

Work on the Practical Guide and Reference Architecture will continue, with the objective of producing drafts for Company Review.
