UDEF Deployment Workshop and Interested Parties Meeting

Objective of Meeting

The UDEF Deployment Workshop on Monday, May 9 was held in order to work on specific deployment scenarios for the UDEF. It was followed on Tuesday, May 10 by a UDEF Interested Parties meeting, whose specific aim was to explore possible synergies between the UDEF and Quantum Lifecycle Management (QLM) activities in The Open Group.

Summary

The UDEF Deployment Workshop discussed two deployment scenarios: the application of the UDEF to QLM, and its application to the reconciliation of different government standards for describing people: specifically those of SEMIC-EU from the EU, and NIEM and UCORE from the US.

UDEF Project Chair, Ron Schuldt gave a presentation on Mapping Person Data Standards to UDEF, and a demonstration of the online UDEF gap-analysis tool. For the QLM Work Group, David Potter gave a presentation on the Background to QLM, and showed a video showing an example of the application of QLM to refrigerators. Ron then gave a presentation on Mapping QLM Concepts to UDEF.

Brand Niemann, of the Semantic Community, who participated by teleconference link, gave a presentation describing his work on the UDEF and its application to US Government standards.

The development of UDEF tags that can relate the government people standards to each other is the subject of work within the UDEF Interested Parties group. The meeting reviewed this work and discussed its underlying principles.

The UDEF Interested Parties meeting that followed the next day discussed the relationship between QLM and the UDEF in more depth, and concluded that the UDEF will meet the needs of the QLM project for semantic identification, and that QLM is an excellent use-case for core UDEF and distributed UDEF.

Outputs

This report constitutes the principal output of the meeting.

Next Steps

The development of UDEF object classes and properties for people, and for QLM entities, will proceed. This will include not only object classes and properties in core UDEF, but also distributed UDEF object classes and properties.
