Rationale (Informative), Issue 6, 2004 Edition [XRAT]

This document is a revision of the Rationale volume of IEEE Std 1003.1-2001 and ISO/IEC 9945:2003, incorporating IEEE Std 1003.1-2001/Cor 1-2002 (identical to ISO/IEC 9945:2002/Cor 1:2003) and IEEE Std 1003.1-2001/Cor 2-2004 (identical to ISO/IEC 9945:2003/Cor 1:2004). This document forms part of the Single UNIX Specification, Version 3 (T041). It contains informative text which complements the additional RATIONALE sections that have been added to the reference pages in Base Definitions, Issue 6, System Interfaces, Issue 6, and Shell and Utilities, Issue 6. It includes extended rationale that did not fit well into the rest of the document set. It also contains historical information concerning the contents of the Single UNIX Specification. This document was developed by the Austin Group, a joint working group of the IEEE, The Open Group, and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC22/WG15.
