** Call for Participation: Realtime Profile certification

The Open Group is looking for interested organizations to participate in a pilot program for a Realtime Profile certification based on IEEE Std 1003.13-2003 Profile 54 and beta testing the associated test suite for 1003.13-2003 Profile 54.

Participation in the test suite beta can be accomplished by signing up for an Early Development License (EDL)--- an opportunity to license the testsuites at a significantly reduced rate over the General Availability prices in return for participating and giving feedback in the beta test of the testsuites and the pilot certification program.

The POSIX 1003.13:2003 PSE 54 profile testsuite is expected to consist of the following test sets with POSIX test modes aligned to IEEE Std 1003.1, 2004 Edition (note that the exact packaging may change):

  1. +PSE54 layer : scenario files for the PSE54 Units of Functionality plus additional tests for PSE54
  2. +VSX-PCTS2003 : the "Base" POSIX conformance test suite for System Interfaces
  3. +VSC-PCTS2003+ (including tests for the Software Development Option and User Portability Utilities option : the POSIX conformance test suite for Shell & Utilities
  4. +VSTH-PCTS : POSIX Threads test suite
  5. +VSRT-PCTS : POSIX RealTime test suite
  6. +VSART-PCTS : POSIX Advance RealTime test suite
  7. +VSTRC-PCTS : POSIX Tracing test suite
  8. +VSRTE-PCTS : POSIX Additional RealTime test suite
  9. (including harness components VSXgen, TET)

Approximate timescales are for the test suite beta to commence October 1st and run for between 4 and 6 weeks.

Participation in the pilot certification program will allow participants to assist in shaping the certification program for a "Multipurpose Realtime 1003.13-2003" product standard. In particular we are looking for input on identifying the constituent pieces of IEEE Std 1003.13 PSE54 that should be required in order to ensure a successful takeup of the certification program (setting the bar at the right level).

Certification is proposed to be under the joint IEEE and The Open Group POSIX program, and fees will be in line with the existing program fee schedule (ranging from $3000 per specific platform, to $12000 for a product family). Licensing the POSIX trademark would be available with this certification but optional.
